When the Real Trends real estate rankings came out last month, Vero Beach was – no surprise – well represented, with Dale Sorensen Real Estate leading the way.
Just as she has been for some number of years now, Matilde Sorensen was the top agent on the island and in Indian River County, with $139,939,000 in sales in 2022. That put her at No. 167 in the U.S. out of more than 3 million real estate agents and No. 36 in the booming state of Florida.
The home-grown island brokerage she co-owns with her husband Dale Sorensen Sr. showed up twice in the national rankings that recognize the top 500 brokerages in the U.S.
There are more than 100,000 brokerages in the U.S. according to Real Trends, and Sorensen was No. 331 in volume with $1.14 billion in sales in 2022. Sorensen also squeezed into the top 500 brokerages ranked by transaction numbers, coming in at No. 496, with 1,889 transactions – which translates to 36 deals a week on average or more than five each day.
Matilde Sorensen was the only island agent to appear in the national rankings and Dale Sorensen Real Estate was the only Vero-based brokerage to crack the top 500, but two regional brokerages with thriving offices on the island made the national list and Vero agents heavily populate the roster of top Florida agents.
Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Florida Realty, which has a busy Vero office on Ocean Drive in Central Beach, was No. 152 in volume nationwide with sales of $1.76 billion, operating out of approximately 30 locations in more than 20 Florida counties. It came in No. 208 in transactions, with 4,691 deals in 2022.
ONE Sotheby’s International Realty also did well, coming in at No. 26 nationwide in sales volume and No. 91 in the number of transactions, with 6,312 deals and $7.46 billion in sales spread among approximately two dozen offices stretching from Miami to Jacksonville. ONE Sotheby’s local office on A1A south of the 17th St. causeway moved up this year to be number two in the county during the first six months of 2023.
Altogether, 14 Vero Beach agents showed up in the Real Trends rankings, including eight who were among the top 500 in Florida. In addition to Sorensen, they include Bob Niederpruem at Premier Estate Properties, who ranked No. 357 in the state with $31.9 million in sales; Michael Thorpe at ONE Sotheby’s International Realty, who was No. 258 with $38.2 million in sales; Debbie Bell at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Florida Realty, who was No. 225 in Florida, with $41.6 million in sales; and Charlotte Terry at Alex MacWilliam Inc., who was No. 197 in the state with $44.9 million sold.
Moving on from individual agents to teams, the top small team in Vero Beach ranked by volume was the Brown Tally Group at Premier Estate Properties. Led by longtime island real estate icon Kay Brown, it was No. 67 in the state with $74.6 million in sales
The O’Dare Boga Dobson Group at One Sotheby’s international Realty was the top large team, while The Reynolds Team at Compass was the top mega team in Vero as measured by both transactions and dollar volume, with 345 transactions and $140.3 million in sales.
