Sunrise Rotary Vero Beach has been busy during the 22-23 Rotary Year

Sunrise Rotary Vero Beach has been busy:

The club raised just under $100k at the annual Florida Craft Brew and Wingfest in Feb. and has been busy doing projects and sponsoring projects with your community support by sponsoring and attending.

Scholarship Committee gave out $26,000 in 21 Scholarships to Students at Sebastian HS, Vero Beach HS, Indian River Charter HS, St. Eds HS and a graduate student with Lagoon focus at Harbor Branch.

Literacy Committee read to 270 preschool age students in 7 schools and gave them each their own book. Bought laptops for Accelerated Reading students at Gifford Middle and Oslo Middle. Read weekly at Citrus Elementary and Dodgertown. Created a new JR. Interact Club and a Rotakids Club (only the 2nd in the
State). Placed a Little Free Library at the Fellsmere Fridge (one of our projects). Funded: Little Wonders for 4 year olds at ELC; Citrus Elementary Autism Awareness; Youth Guidance Multipurpose Room; scholarships for young girls in a small village in India;

Youth Committee Sponsored and participated in a “4-Way Test” project at Imagine School; Supported the JR Counselor program at ELC; Supported and participated with the IRCHS Interact Club; Supported the Youth Sailing Foundation scholarship fund; Gave Gifford Youth Orchestra scholarship money;

Community Partnership Committee supported the Youth Guidance Multipurpose Room; Helped with funding and taking food to the Fellsmere Fridge project; Partnered with Kiwanis to work on a Kids playground at the new Youth Sailing Foundation area on the Lagoon; Work with Main Street Vero Beach and the City of Vero on the Rotary Fountain; Held a Mothers Day Brunch at St Francis Manor; Worked at St Francis Manor on their Jazz Under the Moon fundraiser; Supported Relay for Life; Working on the Rotary Road Signs for entrances to Vero Beach; The Vero Beach parade was transferred from Oceanside Business Association to the Sunrise Rotary Vero Beach club and we pulled off our first year as sole host over 80 floats and walkers participated.

Environmental Committee Did several cleanups including Jaycee Park, Riverside Park near the gazebo, and around the City Marina; continued to monitor by quarterly trips out on the Lagoon for water, and soil testing thru ORCA Citizen Science project; brought a new Fridge project to Vero and is located at the IRSC campus and will have a plate with Rotarian Jim Thompson’s name on it; toured Egret Marsh Stormwater; provided a touchscreen at ELC thru a donation by ACT Computers; Funded at summer camp at Pelican Island Audubon for homeless kids

International Committee helped a new project to teach women agriculture with tools and seeds in the Republic of Congo; provided Girls educational scholarships in India; provided funds for reading in Puerto Plata DR; Supported Aktenamit Indigenous peoples with funds for a dormitory; Refurbished a Kitchen at an ElderCare facility in Puerto Plata DR; Funded a classroom with furnishings in Guatemala; provided a new AC, repaired a roof and a water tank at the Abandoned Children home in Boquete Panama.

Membership Committee added 16 new members, lost 8 and ended with a net of 8 new members.

There are more projects this is just a few of 60 plus that Sunrise Rotary Vero Beach club did this past year.

Saturday June 24th the club installation of the 23-24 officers happened at ELC. Pam O’Donnell will be the Immediate Past President and Justin Lefebure (on July 1st) became the 23-24 President.
