Humane Society Joins Forces with Mermaid Vet/Orchid Island Dog Spa to Accommodate over 20 Dogs Due to Full Kennels

(Vero Beach, Florida) – The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVB) is thrilled to announce an exciting partnership with local veterinary clinic, Mermaid Vet/Orchid Island Dog Spa, aimed at addressing the overwhelming challenge of limited space for dogs at the shelter. In this collaborative effort, Mermaid Vet has generously offered to house and board more than 20 adoptable dogs temporarily, alleviating the strain on incoming animals at HSVB.

As animal owner surrenders have increased more than 20% versus last year, the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County has been tirelessly working to provide care, shelter, and rehoming opportunities for animals in need. However, with the rising number of animals requiring assistance, the organization has been facing capacity issues within their kennels for months. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, HSVB sought a partnership to help accommodate these animals, and Mermaid Vet/Orchid Island Dog Spa stepped up in an invaluable way.

Mermaid Vet, known for providing exceptional veterinary care, has recently acquired the Orchid Island Dog Spa facility that ensures the comfort and well-being of its furry guests. By graciously helping HSVB, Mermaid Vet/Orchid Island Dog Spa is enabling the shelter to continue its life-saving work without compromising the welfare of any animals in their care.

“We are immensely grateful to Mermaid Vet/Orchid Island Dog Spa for their incredible support and willingness to assist us during this challenging time,” expressed Kate Meghji, Chief Executive Officer of the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County. “Their partnership allows us to ensure that every animal in our community receives the care and attention they deserve while we work diligently to find them loving homes.”

The partnership between the Humane Society and Mermaid Vet highlights the significance of community collaboration in addressing animal welfare challenges. By pooling their resources and expertise, both organizations hope to inspire others in the community to come forward and play their part in making a difference for animals in need. By working together, both are paving the way for a brighter future for homeless animals in Indian River County.

“We are thrilled to be able to lend our capabilities to the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County, furthering their mission of finding loving families for the dogs of Indian River County and beyond. As veterinarians, we all too often see the consequences of long-term displacement on pets and are excited to contribute to helping these pups find forever homes, says Dr. Peter Mosites, owner of Mermaid Vet/Orchid Island Dog Spa.
