INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Construction for the North County Library’s extension – which will include two small conference rooms and more parking lot space – will soon be finished, county officials said.
The announcement comes during National Library Week, which runs Sunday April 23 through Saturday April 29. This year’s theme is “There’s more to the story.”
“The North County Library is growing. Planning for the ever-changing needs of the community is just one element of maintaining a dynamic library system throughout the county,” Indian River officials said in a statement. “Libraries have long served as trusted institutions for all members of a community and Indian River County has a thriving program with three libraries around the county, each with their own robust calendar of activities and variety of resources.”
The North County Library is located at 1001 Sebastian Boulevard, Sebastian.
The additional space for North County Library is 2,800 square feet and single story, officials said. Public Works Engineering representatives, along with the General Services Library Division, developed the vision for the project.
Public Works Engineering collaborated with MBV Engineering and Donadio & Associates Architect, P.A., on the design and construction, officials said. Proctor Construction Company is the contractor building the expansion.
“The Board of County Commissioners recognizes the critical role libraries play in the economic vitality of communities by providing internet and technological access, literacy skills, and support for job seekers, small businesses, and entrepreneurs,” county officials said. “Of course, libraries are also a safe and welcoming environment for families to gather, study and even play together.”
