Change in Leadership

Dear friends and supporters,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of SafeSpace, I wanted to let you know that Dr. Teresa Albizu has resigned as Chief Executive Officer of SafeSpace. The entire Board thanks her for her service and commitment to the cause over the last 3 years and we wish her well in her future endeavors. Effective May 1st, Arturo “Art” Ciasca will serve as Interim CEO while a nationwide search is conducted to fill the position.

Art was employed with SafeSpace as the Director of Development for over 5 years and then was CEO at Suncoast Mental Health Center for 3.5 years. Prior to his SafeSpace employment, he held 20 years of experience serving in various manager and director positions at nonprofit organizations. Art will bring leadership and stability to the organization while our board of directors, in collaboration with a newly formed executive search committee, undertakes the search for a new chief executive.

As you know, SafeSpace has had four decades of success in changing and saving lives, giving victims of domestic violence the courage to leave and empowerment to thrive and helping them to create independent lives free from violence. We could not do the work we do across the Treasure Coast without your partnership and confidence in us.

Any questions regarding this transition should be directed to Aimee Cooper, Board President, at ACooper@SafeSpaceFL.org.

Thank you in advance for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we go through this transition.
