Man’s body found in vehicle at Sonic’s parking lot, police investigating

VERO BEACH — The body of an unidentified man was found in a vehicle at a Sonic Drive-In parking lot Friday, prompting a death investigation, officials said.

Foul play doesn’t appear to be a factor in the death, Vero Beach police spokesperson Officer Kelsea Marty said. There was little information available as the case remains an active investigation.

Police responded to the incident about 1:17 p.m. at the fast-food restaurant in the 1700 block of U.S. 1. Indian River County Fire Rescue crews pronounced the man dead at the scene, Marty said.

The body was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Fort Pierce.

Officers combed the area for any evidence and spoke with possible witnesses. Police had cleared the scene by 6 p.m.

No further information was immediately available.
