General election results are in

Polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday as residents made their selections for who will fill three open seats on the Vero Beach City Council. Voters also decided on whether to approve or reject a referendum on the Three Corners Project.

Residents also made their choice for who should be elected to School Board District 2 – Jackie Rosario or Cynthia Gibbs. Rosario and Gibbs, the top two vote-getters in the Primary Election, were sent to a runoff in August since no candidates for that race earned more than 50 percent of the vote.

Moore, Zudans, Carroll win Vero City Council race; Rosario wins School Board District 2 seat

Linda Moore, Tracey Zudans and John M. Carroll Jr. won the three open seats in Tuesday's general election for Vero Beach City Council, according to the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections website. Five other candidates trailed behind in the vote count. Zudans had 15 percent of votes, while Moore and Carroll had 14 percent of votes. Rosario won the District 2 seat for the Indian River County School Board. Rosario competed against Cynthia Gibbs in a runoff race for the school board seat. Vero picks former mayor to fill council seat

VERO BEACH — By a 3 to 1 vote, the Vero Beach City Council has selected former mayor Dick Winger to fill Joe Graves’ council seat until the November election.  The council interviewed six applicants — Winger, former councilman Brian Heady, retired police sergeant Chris Drake, Vero Young Republicans founder Taylor Dingle, Utilities Commission member and two-time candidate John Cotugno, and retired school administrator and business owner Peter Benedict II, the son of the long-time St. Edward’s School headmaster.
