Honoring Veterans this Veterans Day Veterans Day Ceremony – November 11, 2022

(VERO BEACH, FL) In honor of Veterans Day, the Veterans Council of Indian River County invites the community to attend a Veterans Day Ceremony Friday, November 11th, 2022 at 8:45am on Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary in Vero Beach’s Riverside Park. This event is free to the public. 

The Veterans Council of Indian River County is honored to have Colonel Tony Young, US Army Retired as the guest speaker for the event.  Colonel Young is a native of Vero Beach and was a member of the first VBHS Air Force Junior ROTC Class to complete the full program in 1972. He served as a medical evacuation aviator, medical operations planner & Chief of Staff of the 30th Medical Brigade. Colonel Young deployed in the Gulf War, Bosnia and Iraq. In 2006, he returned home after 30 years of active military duty. He is a past Veterans Council President. In 2016 Colonel Young was elected to the Vero Beach City Council. He is the former 2020 Vero Beach Mayor. Today he is leading the WWII Tribute Team. 

“The Veterans Council is proud and honored to present the annual Veterans Day Ceremony to our community” said Cynthia Ryan, Executive Director of the Veterans Council.  “We are proud to salute our veterans for their selfless service and sacrifice. We want them to know that the Veterans Council is here working to provide programs to help our veterans thrive.  We owe them so much and we are here to celebrate them.” 

The ceremony will include full military honors, with the Parade of the Colors by veteran groups, City of Vero Beach Police Department, Indian River County Sherriff’s Office, Indian River County Fire Rescue and numerous civic organizations.  The Vero Beach High School Band will provide music throughout the ceremony.

The ceremony will start promptly at 9:00 am.  Ample parking is available at Riverside Park, with the Veterans Council providing a complimentary shuttle to and from the overflow parking lot.  Please remember to bring your lawn chair to enjoy this ceremony honoring our veterans.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.
