Indian River County Administrator Jason Brown will resign at the end of the year after accepting a finance position with the Clerk of the Court office, officials said. Brown has served as administrator since 2016 and has 25 years of service with the county.

“I treasure the relationships that I have with you and so many other members of our community. Over the last 25 years I have been blessed to have the chance to work with amazing coworkers and community partners to serve the public and impact the quality of life in the place where I was born and raised,” Brown said in a resignation letter he submitted to the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners on Thursday. “I hereby resign as county administrator. In order to provide time for transition planning, I will continue to serve in this role through December 31, 2022.”

Commissioners will discuss the options for filling the administrator position at the Nov. 1 commission meeting. Brown’s annual salary as administrator is $211, 871.66, according to the county human resource department.

Most of Brown’s 25-year tenure with the county was in the Office of Management and Budget, where he served as director, before he was appointed as administrator, officials said.

“My time here has been tremendously rewarding,” Brown said. “My strongest skill set and abilities are in governmental finance and accounting. I am making a personal choice to go back to those roots. I appreciate this new opportunity with the Clerk of the Courts to be able to serve the citizens of Indian River County.”

Brown – born and raised in Indian River County – has strong ties to the community and is raising his family in the area.

“I have chosen the opportunity to alter my work life to provide more quality time with the people in my life I cherish most,” Brown said.
