Wild About Wellness at the ELC

September 15, 2022-Vero Beach, Florida– Take care of yourself and your family.  The School District of Indian River County and the Environmental Learning Center invite you to the ELC campus for “Wild About Wellness”. The free community event is planned for October 22nd from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Guests will have access to the ELC Campus to meet the participating providers, attend the class demonstrations and talks and explore the Discovery Station, Nature Nook, Art Galleries, and Walking Trails. 

The SDIRC and community physical and mental health and wellness providers will be set up on the Thomas R. Schidel Education and Event Pavilion lawn. This is an opportunity to meet the organizations that are taking care of students and providing services for youth and families in Indian River County.  Participating organizations include Cleveland Clinic, Drug Abuse Treatment Center, Mental Health Association, Mental Health Collaborative, QuitDoc Foundation, SAFIR-Substance Abuse Awareness Center, Suncoast Mental Health, Treasure Coast Community Health, Tykes and Teens, United Against Poverty, Youth and Family Behavior Center, Treasure Coast Girl’s Coalition and Legacy Behavioral Health.

The ELC will have speakers and presentations about the benefits of nature immersion on overall well-being.  Janice Broda will lead a 30-minute demonstration Pilates class in the Lagoon Room at 10:30 AM. Guests are invited to try Walking Meditation in the Native Plant Garden with Elise Mahovlich at 11:00 AM.   Dr. Katie Nall will demonstrate Qigong at 11:30 AM and Emotional Freedom Tapping at 12:00 PM.   Jennifer Satterly and Barbara Schlitt Ford wrap up the day with their “Benefits of Nature Immersion on Health and Well-Being” presentation.   ELC Educator Jennifer Satterly will also lead two Family Friendly-All Ages Nature Walks.  These walks are planned for 30 minutes and will start at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM in front of the Barrows Welcome Center.  

Plan to spend time seeing the providers, and attending the demo classes and health-related presentations.  Bring your family, enjoy the day, and leave with new connections to physical and mental health and wellness providers.   Environmental Learning Center is located at 255 Live Oak Drive in Vero Beach, Florida.  From US1, take the 510 Causeway east and turn south before the foot of the Wabasso Bridge onto Live Oak Drive.  For more information on Wild About Wellness and other events at Environmental Learning Center, visit the website DiscoverELC.org or call 772 589-5050.

The Environmental Learning Center is a 64-acre island nature center surrounded by the Indian River Lagoon. Enjoy a hands-on indoor science museum with aquariums and a touch tank.    The ELC is open seven days a week and located at the western foot of the Wabasso Bridge on County Road 510 in Indian River County. The nonprofit nature center is a destination for water activities, walking trails, and wellness programs. With a mission to educate, inspire and empower all people to be active stewards of the environment and their own well-being, the ELC is committed to sharing the importance of protecting and restoring our natural resources.
