INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One person was killed and two others injured in a Thursday morning house fire that happened near 4th Street and U.S. 1, fire rescue officials said.

Firefighters were dispatched to the blaze at 9:57 a.m. at the single-family home, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Steve Greer said. Fire rescue crews removed three residents from the home and extinguished the blaze.

Greer said at least two of the individuals were taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. It was unclear if the third person was also taken to Cleveland Clinic or another area hospital.

Doctors pronounced one person dead at Cleveland Clinic, Greer said. The conditions of the other two individuals were not immediately available.

The genders and ages of the residents also were not available. The blaze led Indian River County sheriff’s deputies to close the intersection at 4th Street and U.S. 1 for about an hour and 30 minutes, officials said.

This is the second fatality involving a house fire to occur in Indian River County this week.

Monday, deputies and fire rescue crews found a man with a gunshot wound inside a burning residence in the 800 block of 27th Avenue. The man was taken by ambulance to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where doctors pronounced him dead, Greer said.

The state fire marshal will investigate the Thursday house fire, officials said. Monday’s home fire remains under investigation by the state fire marshal along with the sheriff’s office.

No further details were immediately available.
