‘Rex & Friends’ Music to Kids’ Ears

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra works with Indian River County schools

(VERO BEACH, FL) October 10, 2022 – The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will present a musical program for Indian River County school children in kindergarten, first and second grade at Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street in Vero Beach. Beginning at 10:00 AM on October 27th, Rex & Friends will be performed in front of thousands of students, featuring kid-tested musical selections from Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Jurassic World, Harry Potter, Ice Age, Meet the Flintstones, Out of Africa, Madagascar and more. The students will get to attend in costume, enjoy pre-concert activities and experience an original story by children’s author Michelle Wallace Campanelli. Movie clips and story illustrations by SCSO bassoonist and professional graphic artist, Angela Moretti will be shown on screen during Rex & Friends to help keep youngsters engaged. Over 2000 students and teachers are expected, with two concerts presented back-to-back to accommodate the large audience of youngsters. While Rex & Friends is a special musical outreach for children, tickets to any Space Coast Symphony concert are always free for those aged 18 and under or with a student ID. For more information, call toll free to 855-252-7276 or visit SpaceCoastSymphony.org.

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins, wants to keep the tradition going.

“This is our fourth year working with Indian River County schools to present an amazing program for young students,” said Collins. “And we are looking for help to cover the rising cost of busses. If you are able to donate, you will receive complimentary tickets to sit in on this awesome concert with the kids. It’s an experience you won’t forget!”

In 2019, the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra received a grant from Indian River Impact 100, an organization of women dedicated to impacting the community through transformational giving. The grant allowed for the development and underwriting of youth programming for a period of two years. Now funded solely by donations, the SCSO’s free family concert series adds Rex & Friends to the growing list of successful programs, following Land of the Gnomes (2021), Music at the Watering Hole (2020) and Musicians Are Superheroes (2019). ABOUT THE SPACE COAST SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA— The SCSO is a lively and passionate Central Florida orchestra comprised of professional musicians, music educators and mentored amateurs of exceptional ability.  The Orchestra was formed by Conductor and Artistic Director Aaron T. Collins with a two-fold mission: to provide mentoring and performance opportunities for Florida’s finest young musicians as well as to provide professional concerts at genuinely affordable prices. The ultimate goal of the organization is to help ensure the symphonic tradition for the enjoyment of future generations.

Aaron T. Collins is garnering recognition for his achievements.  LEAD Brevard named the ambitious Collins one of their “4 under 40” Young Professionals, the youngest-ever recipient of the honor.  Space Coast Business magazine listed him as one of Brevard’s “100 Most Admired Businesspeople.” Collins is a past recipient of the Richard A. Stark Award for cultural leadership from the Cultural Council of Indian River County. Through his personal involvement with more than a dozen performing arts groups, pioneering reciprocal ad program and social media cross promotions, Collins has gained a reputation for generosity; championing other arts organizations throughout Central Florida for the cultural enrichment of the community.           School-aged children 18 years and under are admitted free of charge, as are college students with a valid ID.  In keeping with their mission, the symphony provides a unique Symphony for Everyone ticketing program, a “pay-what-you-can” option designed to provide substantially discounted admission to any Space Coast Symphony concert. The non-traditional Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is one of only 19 U.S. orchestras to perform year-round. In addition to maintaining the Space Coast Symphony JAZZ Orchestra and Space Coast Symphony Wind Orchestra, the nonprofit organization provides numerous separate and free ensemble performances.
