The owners of the lakefront home at 48 Cache Cay Dr. were ready to give up when searching for someplace to settle in Florida. They had explored the West Coast as far south as Naples and from Palm Coast to Jupiter on the East Coast without finding what they wanted.

Then they spied Vero Beach on the map and decided to give it a try.

After lunch at the Ocean Grill and a drive through the beachside shopping and dining district on Ocean Drive, the owner recalls saying to her husband, “This feels comfortable. I could live here.”

They had some very specific criteria as they looked – a circular driveway, eastern exposure at the back of the house, a tile roof and a lake.

“This was one of the last houses we looked at, and we fell in love with it,” the owner says of the Cache Cay residence, adding that the house had really good bones, plenty of space and was in a nice neighborhood with low crime that was close to the beach.

“And lots of storage and closets,” she adds.

“It hit all the buttons,” her husband said.

The couple made extensive upgrades, adding an elegance that takes advantage of the natural light and indoor-outdoor living spaces, with coffered and tray ceilings, crown molding, arched doorways, art niches, new flooring, an updated kitchen and renovated owner’s bathroom.

“The natural light in this house is amazing,” says listing agent Michelle Clarke, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Realty.

To access the island community, you cross a small bridge before passing through the guard-gated entrance. Located at the rear of the neighborhood, the home at 48 Cache Cay Dr. enjoys an increased level of quiet and security.

A circular, brick-paved drive feeds into the two-car, side-entry garage, providing plenty of space for guests to park before heading through the glass entry doors at the center of the 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath house.

Crossing the threshold, you are enveloped by the lake views showcased through glass doors across the back of the formal living room, where lots of light brightens the home.

A coat closet and powder room are located to the right of the front entry. Further down, the den and owner’s suite are situated for optimal privacy.

The spacious suite overlooks the pool and lake. You can relax and take in the tranquil setting or head out to the pool through the glass door.

The bathroom is resplendent in shades of gray from the slate flooring to the vertical tiles and quartzite countertops; there are dual sinks and a walk-in shower. Glass block allows for natural light to fill the room without sacrificing privacy.

The bathroom can be accessed from the bedroom at one end and through the large walk-in closet at the other end. The traffic flow ensures you won’t get in one another’s way when getting ready to head out for the day.

The dining room is located to the left of the front door, allowing for an intimate gathering place when entertaining. Bar, kitchen, breakfast nook, laundry room, and two guest bedrooms, one en-suite and the other with a cabana bath, complete this side of the house.

The split plan creates a buffer between the owner’s suite and the guest rooms, allowing for a great deal of privacy and a flow that encourages guests to venture out onto the screened lanai.

At the center of the house, the kitchen welcomes guests to enjoy coffee at the bar, which defines the kitchen and the breakfast nook. An island countertop with a gas cooktop allows for everything from simple to elaborate meal prep. Stacked marble backsplash that reflects the light from the morning sun is a classy touch.

A covered outdoor seating area awaits through a set of glass doors, increasing the living space.

It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sunrise over the lake. You can also take a swim in the large, rectangular pool, soak in the hot tub or, in the evening, watch the reflection of brilliant sunsets and billowy clouds on the water.

The couple say they love to watch the ever-changing sky. From storms to moonrise and sunrise to sunset, each vista can be more glorious than the one that came before. “Those opportunities present themselves quite often.”

“You have the outside coming in. It’s like a live mural or live photo,” says Clarke.

Cache Cay is a gated island community located just south of Jandrew Cove. The neighborhood is a short walk away from shops, dining and beaches, with cultural venues in nearby Riverside Park.

The owner says they will miss walking to the beach. “We are in close proximity to everything I want. Everything can be reached within 10 minutes.”
