Margaret Theresa Graham, 94, Sebastian

April 8, 1928 – September 22, 2022

Margaret Theresa Graham, (94) passed away peacefully on September 22, 2022.   Margaret was the widow of John Matthew Graham.  They shared 58 years of marriage together and had eight children.

Born in Queens, New York on April 8, 1928, Margaret was the daughter of William McCormick and Margaret McCormick (nee Dolan) and the sister of William McCormick, Eileen McGrath, James McCormick, Terrence McCormick and Patricia Tobiason.

Margaret, who highly valued education, earned an Associate of Arts degree from Suffolk Community College in 1976.  She then attended and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1980.

For over 11 years, from 1985 through 1996, Margaret was employed by the Connetquat Central School District as the Career Counselor at Connetquat High School in Bohemia, New York.  In that capacity Margaret assisted and advised hundreds of students choosing colleges and making career choices.  She loved her work and was greatly valued by all who knew her.

Margaret and her family were long-time members of Saints Philip and James Roman Catholic Church in Saint James, New York, where she lived for nearly 50 years.  Margaret and her husband John retired and moved to Sebastian, Florida in 1995.

While in Sebastian, Margaret was an active volunteer, including serving for years at the North Indian River County Library in Sebastian. She also volunteered for many years at the Environmental Learning Center in Vero Beach, Florida.   While Margaret was passionate about her volunteer work, her greatest love was her extensive family and family friends.

Margaret is survived by her sister, Patricia Tobiason, her children, Helen Graham, Joseph Graham and his wife Joann Graham, Daniel Graham and his wife Kathleen Graham, Margaret Gonzalez, Patricia Graham and her husband Frank Pontillo, and Regina Graham and her husband John (Billy) Thompson.  She also survived by her grandchildren, Stacy Walsh, Lauren Walsh and Alex Ginsberg, Gregory Walsh, Christine Hovanec and her husband Joe Hovanec, John Graham and his wife Jennifer Graham, Kevin Graham and his wife Eliana Graham, Caren Green and her husband Jay Green, Jessica Graham, Julia Graham, Sean Graham, Joseph Graham and his wife Christina Graham, Shannon Graham, Sarah Stockwell and her husband Paul Stockwell, Amy Graham, Kimberly Hernandez and her husband Fabrizzio Hernandez, Natalie Pontillo and Nicholas Pontillo.  Margaret is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews and their spouses, children and grandchildren.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband John M. Graham, her sons John Graham and Matthew Graham and her grandson Matthew James Graham. She was also predeceased by her parents, William and Margaret McCormick, her sister, Eileen McGrath, and her brothers, William McCormick and his wife Ida McCormick, James McCormick and his wife Patricia McCormick, and Terrence McCormick.

Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on October 13, 2022 at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church at 2085 Tallahassee Avenue, Vero Beach, Florida 32960 on October 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.  A luncheon will follow.  Interment and additional services will be held in Farmingdale, New York at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Mystic Force Foundation (2067 NE 120th Road North Miami Beach, Fl,33181, www.mysticforcefoundation.com ) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org ), as both charities support childhood cancer research and patient services.
