2 shot during argument outside of IRC home, deputies say

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Two people were both injured after firing shots at each other during an argument outside of a residence Saturday, deputies said.

Indian River County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a shooting about 2 p.m. at the home in the 4800 block of 61st Court. The individuals, including one who was the homeowner, got into a verbal altercation earlier in the yard, sheriff’s spokesperson Lt. Joe Abollo said.

“While arguing, both parties pulled firearms and shot at each other,” Abollo said. It was not immediately clear what the argument was about.

The individuals, both adults, were struck by gunfire, officials said. Both were taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, Abollo said.

One person was taken by ambulance to the trauma center while the other was flown, Indian River County Fire Rescue Bureau Chief Richard Marini said.

Details on the conditions and genders of both individuals were not immediately available.  Deputies and crime scene detectives were in the area combing for evidence and speaking with possible witnesses.

A concerned neighbor who wished to remain anonymous said she was inside her home when she heard five-to-eight gunshots from outside. The neighbor then called 911 for help.

“They had an amazing response time, within a matter of minutes,” she said.

The neighbor said she was still on the phone with dispatch when Indian River County Sheriff’s Office patrol cars, fire rescue ambulances, and a fire truck showed up to the scene.
