The Environmental Learning Center is offering canoe paddling classes for beginners. In addition to introducing people to a recreational activity they can enjoy on the Indian River Lagoon, the purpose of the classes is to train individuals to be volunteers for events at the ELC. The classes last about an hour and a half and include five to eight basic strokes and techniques. Participants will learn how to paddle forward, turn the canoes and move sideways. Experienced paddlers are welcome to improve their skills. The next opportunity is Wednesday September 14th and there is a Saturday class on September 24th. All of the sessions begin at 9:00am and paddlers should wear closed toe/heel shoes that can get wet, a hat and sunglasses. A water bottle and sunscreen are also recommended. To sign up for a class, contact Volunteer Coordinator Nancy Puglio by email at Nancy@DiscoverELC.org or phone at 772 589 5050.
