Gas line repaired, S.R. 60 reopen

Update:

All lanes on State Road 60 reopened Thursday afternoon after being closed for more than three hours because of a natural gas leak nearby, fire rescue crews said. Crews repaired the gas line.

No injuries were reported in the incident, sheriff’s officials said.

A construction truck hit the gas line at 11:47 a.m., causing the leak in the 7700 block of 20th Street, Indian River County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief David Rattray said. There were no homes in the immediate area of the leak.

Authorities closed westbound S.R. 60 from 74th Avenue to 82nd Avenue, officials said. The roadway reopened by 3:31 p.m.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Sheriff’s deputies closed all three lanes on westbound State Road 60 as crews worked to repair a natural gas leak Thursday, fire rescue officials said. No injuries were reported in the incident, sheriff’s officials said.

A construction truck hit the gas line shortly before noon in the 7700 block of 20th Street, Indian River County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief David Rattray said. There are no homes in the immediate area of the gas leak.

Officials closed westbound S.R. 60 from 74th Avenue to 82nd Avenue, Rattray said. Sheriff’s officials said the road will be closed for about three hours.

Motorists should avoid the area. Sheriff’s officials said they would give an update when the roadway reopens.
