School Supply Drive and September 17, 2022 event to benefit local children’s organization

THE EVENT

Do you like supporting worthy causes to help children?  We have the perfect opportunity for you to show your support!  Miss B’s Learning Bees (MBLB) is kicking off their first ever Back to School celebration!  The event will begin with a virtual back to school supply drive and conclude with an evening of dancing, singing, and a thigh slapping good time at Walking Tree Brewery.  We are asking all attendees to purchase supplies from our supply wish list on Amazon or bring school supplies with them to Walking Tree Brewery. Tickets are $100 per person and sponsorship opportunities are available.

The virtual back to school supply drive began on July 20, 2022 and will go through September 17, 2022.  These supplies will be used to fill our supply closet which will be available for students to use throughout the year. The goal of the supply closet is to provide students with the tools needed to be ready to work and ready to learn at the beginning of the year and throughout the school year.  The culminating event at Walking Tree Brewery will consist of live music from a local band, delicious barbeque from 14 Bones.  The dinner will include smoked ribs, smoked chicken, wings, and all of the fixins.  There will also be a ticket raffle.

The purpose of the event is to increase visibility of the organization and raise funding for the afterschool program to continue to provide scholarships for students who need academic support and behavioral services free of charge.  Your much needed contribution will be used to allow 25 additional students to receive academic support and behavioral services in the upcoming school year.  Our goal is to make this a record setting event by raising $30,000.00.  All funds and resources received will be utilized exclusively for students in Indian River County.

THE ORGANIZATION

Miss B’s Learning Bees mission is to assist children and families from high poverty communities by providing academic support and behavioral services to assist children in becoming proficient in the areas of reading and math. To date we have assisted more than 400 students in reaching and maintaining proficiency in the areas of reading and math.  We have a method that works and want to help more children reach and maintain proficiency.

Miss B’s is a 501 (c) non-profit organization founded in 2014. They have earned Platinum status on GuideStar (Candid).

THE NEED

The 2019 Community Needs Assessment (CNA) for Indian River County identified the vast gap in student achievement for children living in economically disadvantaged areas of Indian River County. And, according to the Florida Department of Education District Comparison scores revealed that less than 50% of the lowest performing students are not making learning gains in reading or math.

THE RESULTS

Miss B’s has a proven method that works.  They continue to help children from high poverty communities reach and maintain proficiency.  To date, we have served 410 students and assisted 95% of them in reaching and maintaining proficiency.  The program has been shown to increase the number of economically disadvantaged students that are proficient, as demonstrated by improved scores on I-Ready assessments, and has been shown to decrease the behaviors that prevent students from succeeding in the classroom.
