INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The local humane society recently welcomed 15 new furry friends – 11 dogs and four puppies – at its animal shelter. The dogs were transferred from Clewiston Animal Control, which had a high animal intake this summer and was at double its capacity, officials said.
The Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County brought the dogs on Wednesday to its animal shelter located off 77th Street. Clewiston Animal Control officials contacted the local humane society for help.
“They reached out to us and we were able to help,” Humane Society officials said in a statement. “We took in 15 of the 30 dogs, who all arrived safely this afternoon.”
The agency’s veterinarians and medical team assessed the canines. The dogs were enjoying treats, toys, rest time and tender loving care, officials said.
