INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Sheriff’s body camera and helicopter video captured the moment a K-9 deputy rescued a woman – with Alzheimer’s disease – who officials said was found in the backyard of a nearby home. The elderly woman had been reported missing, sheriff’s officials said.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office released footage of the June 13 rescue on Tuesday. The more than two-minute-long video showed Deputy Ricardo Ferrer helping the woman off the ground and carrying her to family members.
The incident unfolded when deputies responded to a missing person call. Deputies canvassed the area near the woman’s home.
Ferrer found the woman lying in the grass in the backyard of a nearby residence, officials said. It was unclear how long the woman had been in the yard.
Ferrer carried the woman to the roadway. The woman was treated for minor injuries and reunited with her relatives, sheriff’s officials said.
