Nelson Villanueva, of the 1700 block of Berkshire Circle, Vero Beach, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and refusing to provide a DNA sample. Villanueva was released Monday from the Indian River County Jail on $300,500 bond.

Indian River County sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance about 8 p.m. Saturday at Villanueva’s residence. A woman identified as Villanueva’s fiancée told officers she and Villanueva got into an argument the night before, which led Villanueva to drink a lot of beer.

The next day, Villanueva started drinking heavily again and continued arguing with the woman, reports show. The woman told deputies Villanueva broke items throughout the residence.

Villanueva sent messages to the woman and her daughter that stated “he wanted to go to jail and was going to get the death penalty,” reports show. The woman and daughter were living at the home at the time of the incident.

Villanueva told the pair to leave the residence. When the woman and her daughter tried to leave, Villanueva grabbed a gun bag and threatened to shoot them both, reports show.

Nelson denied the claims made against him.

Deputies found the firearm and bag – along with a gun magazine and a box of ammunition – in the garage, reports show.

Deputies arrested Nelson and booked him into the county jail. Nelson has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. May 20, court records show.
