Sea Oaks Arts & Crafts Stroll: Showing, telling – and selling

The creative talents of Sea Oaks residents were on display at the 2022 Sea Oaks Arts & Crafts Stroll, which featured 24 artists displaying a variety of art forms, including paintings, photography, sculpture, jewelry, floral arrangements, quilts and gift items. The recent show, which was not juried and was open to all residents, primarily featured items that were for sale, and others that were strictly for show.

“It’s a great idea,” said Elaine Sigler, whose specialty is Ikebana, Japanese floral arrangements. “We have so many talented people here in Sea Oaks.”

“Originally this was held on the second floor of a cramped community center and because of COVID we decided to do it outside last year. Everybody absolutely loved it,” said event chair Debbie Timmermann.

Because the outdoor venue was such a success, they opted to continue in that fashion, inviting participants to set up their wares once more in the driveways of homes along Bent Oak Lane, a lovely oak canopied cul-de-sac.

However, since there are no walls in the great outdoors, she said they were raising funds to purchase additional display panels on which to hang the artwork, so that even more people could participate.

“We’re doing a silent auction for the first time. We have six artists who have participated in that,” said Timmermann. And at the end of the cul-de-sac, entertainment was provided by the Sea Oaks Band, who Timmermann described as their hometown band.

Residents mostly biked or walked over on the beautiful, sunny day, many accompanied by their well-behaved canine pals. It was a particularly congenial group, as folks visited with their neighbors and chatted with the artists about the works they had created, some during the pandemic downtime.
