Laura Patricia Thatcher (nee Atkinson), 89, Vero Beach

May 9, 1932 – March 7, 2022

Laura Patricia Thatcher (nee Atkinson) of Vero Beach, FL formerly of Farmingdale, NJ, passed away peacefully in her home on March 7, 2022.  She was born in Shrewsbury, NJ to Laura and George Atkinson. Laura enjoyed playing softball with her young male friends, Roger and Charlie, when she was growing up.  She attended Red Bank High School and was known as the mad chemist there. She went on to obtain a MSW from Rutgers University.

Laura was a supervisor at Monmouth County Welfare board and retired in 2002. She was always helping people, even when she was not working.  Laura met her beloved lifetime partner, Jim Smith, who worked for DYFS as a social worker, while working at the welfare board.

Laura loved her children and grand-children and liked to hear about them often and what they were doing.  Laura was an animal lover and raised many cats and some dogs.  Laura enjoyed playing cards and going out to eat with her friends. She loved talking to people and listening to their life stories, no matter who they were.

In addition to Laura’s parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, George and Kenneth, and sisters, Caroline Ugarte and Helen Atkinson, her ex-husband James Thatcher and her grandson James Burke Thatcher.

Laura is survived by her two children, James Kenneth Thatcher (Robin), and Laura Susanne Della Bella (Victor), her step-daughter, Patti Megill (Greg), her lifetime partner, Jim Smith and her step-son (Chris). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carolanne Thatcher, Victor Della Bella, and David Della Bella.

Howard Lee Morrison, 71, Vero Beach

April 2, 1950 – March 7, 2022

Howard Lee Morrison, 71, of Vero Beach, passed away March 7, 2022.

A son of the late Leslie and Mabel Morrison, he was born April 2, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri.

He attended Dan McCarty High school and graduated from Vero Beach High School, continuing his education at Indian River Community College, earning an Associate degree in Carpentry.

Howard worked in the Construction industry for over 40 years becoming well known for his woodworking and consider by many as a master carpenter. He retired in 2014 but went on to work for Home Depot for over 7 years to continue to spread his knowledge with other patrons of the craft.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his loving son, Donovan Leif Morrison.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Edith Morrison; son, Elton Morrison; daughter-in-law, Tisha Morrison; and grandchildren, Dakota and Levi Morrison.

Flowers can be sent to Strunk Funeral Home, 916 17th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the VNA Hospice House of Vero Beach in Honor of Howard Morrison.

Visitation will be March 11,2022 at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach from 5-7:00pm.

The Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 12, 2022 from 10-11am at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach followed by a Interment at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach, FL.

Kenneth Lee Berry, 86, Vero Beach

September 21, 1935 – March 8, 2022

Kenneth Lee Berry, 86, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 surrounded by his daughters, after a very brave and hard fought battle with a chronic illness.

Ken was born on September 21, 1935 in Salt Rock, West Virginia to Rev. Herman Berry & Norma (Nida) Berry.

On June 25, 1955, he wed Shirley Ross and went on to have two daughters, Bev and Sherri. Ken was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was always proud to tell everyone he became a Christian at the age of 19 years old and lived his life full of prayer and faith. He loved spending time with his family and always did his best never to miss any big event in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of his favorite family traditions was waking up to his stocking on Christmas morning.  He enjoyed working on household projects, growing vegetables in his backyard garden, watching the Florida Gators play, tackling big outdoor projects such as installing a 30 foot flagpole (all by himself), watching the annual Little League World Series, and he was always hungry for a good meal.

He is survived by his daughters Bev Toler (Bruce) and Sherri Rogers; grandchildren Ashley Bell (Kaleb), Logan Rogers, and Sheridan Rogers; great-grandchildren Emma Bell and Jack Bell; brother Herman Berry (Parshia), sister Ann Ross, sister Janice Newman, sister Brenda Berry,  and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Berry; parents Herman & Norma, sister Earlisee Porter, brother Charles Berry, and brother Hallie Berry.

A funeral service for Ken is scheduled for Saturday, March 12th, at Bethel Baptist Church, 2750 McNeil Road, Ft. Pierce, Florida 34981.  A viewing will be held at 1:30pm with a service to start at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Bethel Baptist Church at www.bethelbaptistchurchfp.com.

Leonard Gregory Popow, 67, Merritt Island

February 08, 1955 – March 08, 2022

Mr. Leonard Gregory Popow, 67, died March 8, 2022, at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

He was born in Goshen, Indiana and resided in Merritt Island, Florida.

Leonard worked as a clerk for Home Depot, his true skills and trade were found in a machine shop where her he worked as a Machinist.

He was a member of St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church, Palm Bay, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Popow; daughter and son-in-law, Natasha and Stephen Ilardi; granddaughters, Lucy and Emma Ilardi; brother and sister-in-law Gene and Betty Popow.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents Gregory and Nadia Popow (nee: Aliensky).

Visitation will be held 1:00 PM on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Strunk Funeral Home, 1623 North Central Avenue, Sebastian, Florida 32958.

A Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM at Strunk Funeral Home Chapel, Sebastian, FL. Immediately following the funeral service burial will take place at Sebastian Cemetery, Sebastian, Florida.

Douglas Terry George, 68, Sebastian

January 6, 1954 – March 3, 2022

Mr. Douglas Terry George, 68, died March 3, 2022, in Sebastian, Florida.

He was born in Burlington, Vermont and resided in Sebastian, Florida.

He attended Colgate University, Niagara University and graduated with doctorate in medicine from University of Automoma de Guadalajara.

He was a medical Doctor in New York and Pennsylvania who specialized in Physical Health and Rehabilitation.

In Douglas’ younger years, he was a member of the United Methodist church in Auburn, N.Y.

He really enjoyed boating and visiting with his son, Douglas Jr.  He loved to go for a ride with his wife, Kathrine around dumaguete Philippines to see different kinds of mother nature like falls, hot spring, and beaches.

Survivors include his wife, Kathrine (Baligasa) George and his son from his former marriage, Douglas George Jr. Of Micco, FL; brothers, Donald George (Kathy) of Auburn, N.Y. and John George (Nicole) of Phoenix, N.Y; sisters Debra stoezel  of Homosassa, FL, Lisa Zinkiewics (Walter) of Sebastian FL; Sarah Sloan (Rick) of Liverpool, N.Y.; several Nieces and Nephews and also family and friends in the Philippines.

At the request of the family services will be held privately.

Arrangements are entrusted to Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, 1623 North Central Avenue, Sebastian, Florida 32958.
