February 24th-Vero Beach, Florida—Award winning Author Janisse Ray will be presenting Here’s to the Wildness We Love: A Conversation with Janisse Ray on Friday March 11th from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Environmental Learning Center in Vero Beach.
Janisse is a writer working at the crossroads of landscape and story. You may know her first book, Ecology of a Cracker Childhood, a memoir about growing up on a junkyard in the endangered longleaf pine ecosystem. The book was named a New York Times Notable Book and a Book All Georgians Should Read. She is author of five other books of literary nonfiction and two collections of poetry. Ray has won a Pushcart Prize, an American Book Award, and a Southern Environmental Law Center Writing Award, among others, and has been inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame. Janisse Ray is based on an organic farm inland from Savannah, GA, in the Southern coastal plains.
She will discuss her new collection of essays, Wild Spectacle: Seeking Wonders in a World Beyond Humans, talk about keeping hope in the face of the climate crisis and the ways we can protect what we love. Janisse will have her books for sale at Environmental Learning Center during the event.
The Janisse Ray presentation and book signing at the ELC is supported by the Laura Riding Jackson Foundation and Pelican Island Audubon Society. There is no charge for the event, but a RSVP is requested.
The Environmental Learning Center is a 64-acre nature park open to the public seven days a week and is located at the west side of the Wabasso Bridge on the Indian River Lagoon in Vero Beach, Florida. Janisse Ray’s visit to the Treasure Coast includes a Lenten Poetry reading at Community Church on Thursday March 10th at 11:00 AM and a writing workshop on Saturday March 12th at the Laura Riding Jackson Pole Barn on the IRSC Mueller Campus.
