Successful Aging Luncheon welcomes Frances Mayes

Best-selling author Frances Mayes will be the featured speaker at this year’s Successful Aging Luncheon presented by the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County (APAIRC). The popular luncheon will begin at noon on Thursday, March 17th and will be held at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, 3001 Riverside Drive, Vero Beach.

Mayes is a prolific writer of books, and her #1 bestseller Under the Tuscan Sun remained on the The New York Times bestseller list for two and a half years and was later made into a popular film starring Diane Lane. She has always appreciated houses, and when she saw Bramasole, a neglected, 200-year-old Tuscan farmhouse, it was love at first sight. Out of that instant infatuation has come six marvelous, and hugely popular, books.

Mayes has shown the world how to celebrate the beauty of life in a foreign land and has inspired generations to embark on their own journeys—be it flying to another country in search of themselves or simply engaging in the simplicity of armchair travel. All of her books are about taking chances, the pleasures of food, books, wine, gardens, and “the voluptuousness of Italian life.”

Past Successful Aging Luncheons have welcomed such cultural icons who celebrate wellness and quality of life as author and journalist Gail Sheehy and actress Rita Moreno.

“Frances Mayes exemplifies the grit and courage it takes to tackle life’s many challenges. With empathy and intelligence, she shares with her audiences the same openness and candor she has brought to her award-winning career as a celebrated author,” said Judith Lemoncelli, Senior Director, Development & Communications for APAIRC.

Tickets are $200 per person or $2,000 for a reserved table of 10. Mayes will answer questions after her talk, and the luncheon will be followed by a book signing.

As part of the event, a special private Tuscan-themed four-course dinner for eight will be auctioned off.  Value of item is $3,000 and bids are being accepted in advance.

Mayes’ appearance at this year’s luncheon is made possible by the generosity of the following individuals: Sandy and Randy Rolf, Nancy and Bob Puff, Emilie and Bob Burr, Becky and Bob Allen, and Michelle and Walter Borisenok.

Proceeds from the luncheon benefit Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County to support their vital programs which are offered free of charge to those with memory and/or movement disorders and their caregivers. For more information, including purchasing tickets or bidding on the Tuscan-theme four-course dinner auction item, contact Judith Lemoncelli at judyl@alzpark.org or 772-563-0505.
