Local students hold State Office for Children of the American Revolution

Sydney Rigaud, a local senior in high school, has served the last year as State President of the Florida Society Children of the American Revolution (F.S.C.A.R.). Her term in office began with being elected in February 2021 at the F.S.C.A.R. State Conference and was inducted in April at the N.S.C.A.R. National Convention.  Sydney chose a state project “Helping Homeless Heroes” to raise $5000 for the Florida Veterans Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit which provides services and support to veterans in Florida.  Sydney also serves as the Society President for the Treasure Coast Society of the C.A.R.

Also serving the F.S.C.A.R. is James Hamilton, a local 8th grader.  He is currently serving as the 2nd Vice President but was just elected at the state conference as the next State President.  The state conference was held this past weekend from 2/18/2022-2/20/2022 in Melbourne, FL.  He will serve as President-Elect until he is inducted in April.  He is also a member of the Treasure Coast Society.  James also is currently serving as the National Archivist.

Both Sydney and James have held multiple state offices in the past and have held leadership roles in the Treasure Coast Society.  The Treasure Coast Society, based out of Sebastian, is supported by the Pelican Island Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.  Treasure Coast Society also has had multiple state chairmen over the years.  It was reactivated in 2011 by Senior Reorganizing Society President Holly Hamilton.  Holly Hamilton currently serves as the Senior State President for the F.S.C.A.R.  Other Senior Leaders of the Treasure Coast Society serving the state are Rhonda Rigaud, Senior State Treasurer, and Rae Burch, Senior State Recording Secretary.

The Children of the American Revolution, the nation’s oldest, largest, patriotic youth organization, offers membership to anyone under the age of 22, lineally descended from someone who rendered material aid to the cause of American Independence as a soldier, sailor, civil officer, or recognized patriot in one of the several Colonies or States, or of the United States. C.A.R. activities focus on patriotism, service, and education about our American heritage.  Members gain valuable leadership experience in conducting meetings, following parliamentary procedures and standard protocol, serving as delegates and speaking before groups at local, state and national conferences. The responsibility and privilege of selecting officers helps members gain an understanding of the democratic process.
