INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One person was flown to a hospital following an airboat versus boat crash Saturday afternoon, police said.
This is the second wreck involving an airboat to occur within less than a week in Indian River County. Saturday’s incident happened near the Blue Cypress Conservational Area, west of County Road 512, Fellsmere police said.
It was unclear which hospital the injured person was flown to. The person’s condition was not immediately available.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers will investigate the cause of the crash. No further details on Saturday’s incident were immediately available.
On Sunday, a Vero Beach man was killed and a Sebastian woman was seriously injured following a collision involving two airboats. Both were jolted into the water after their boat struck another airboat head-on, an FWC report shows.
It was unclear if the woman had been released from the hospital. The crash site was off of C.R. 512, not far from the Garcia Boat Ramp.
The wreck happened on a single wide vessel airboat trail, reports show. The trail had a sharp blind curve, which is where both airboats collided, FWC officers said.
