Supporters of the Vero Beach Museum of Art jazzed it up recently at the 2022 Gala: Masterworks in Art and Music, ‘celebrating jazz, swing and boogie woogie’ and each other’s company all night long.

Led by gala chair Janet Tribus and her co-chair Xaque Gruber, the gala committee – “the bee’s knees” – had planned a delightful evening, thanks to support from “the cat’s meow” gala sponsors. The event was highlighted by remarkable artworks in the galleries and entertainment by the jazzy sounds of the Mickey Freeman Trio and Quartet.

The sell-out crowd of some 400 guests began the evening, cocktails in hand, getting a first peek at the impressive new exhibition, “Vero Collects: Hidden Treasures Revealed.” A number of those in attendance had actually contributed to the exhibit, which features the privately owned works of “European Old Masters, historic American Art, American and European Modernism and global contemporary art” on loan from local collectors and curated by Anke Van Wagenberg, VBMA senior curator.

A delicious gourmet dinner catered by Elizabeth D. Kennedy & Co. that included crab Napoleon, a stuffed fillet of beef and, for dessert, a chocolate Marquis cake, was served in the impressively decorated Holmes Great Hall and spaciously renovated Laura and Bill Buck Atrium. Later, guests “cut a rug” on a dance floor in the Stark Rotunda Gallery, dancing the night away and closing out the delightful evening.

Funds raised by the event support the museum’s numerous exhibitions and programs offered to children and adults throughout the entire community.
