Born on July 16th, 1939 in Williamson, West Virginia. Denny joined the Williamson Volunteer Fire Department at age 18 when he graduated from Williamson High School in 1957. Their volunteer membership sent Denny to the West Virginia University Firefighter Training School and upon his return would be provided compensation for instruction and training of their members in all aspects of fire and rescue. This dedication to service landed Denny an opportunity to meet local physicians in the area who encouraged him to pursue a career in Radiology. He then became an X-Ray technician who specialized in nuclear medicine.
Denny was employed by Williamson Memorial Hospital for 9 years. Then not wanting to raise his two children in the coal mines, Denny moved his family to Vero Beach, Florida from Williamson, West Virginia in 1967. He was employed by Indian River Memorial Hospital for 8 years until being offered an opportunity to be chief of X-Ray at the proposed opening of Sebastian River Medical Center in 1974. Denny was instrumental in the architectural drawings and layout of the X-Ray facility during construction and hiring of his staff. Denny worked for Sebastian Hospital for 20 years until its takeover by Humana.
Dennis was recruited by many hospitals and clinics around the southeast after leaving Sebastian Hospital. These practices contracted him to open locations, purchase equipment, hire and train their staff as well as other types of medical logistics. He was then offered employment by the private practice group Radiology Imaging Associates. He was employed with them for over 10 years until his retirement. Denny had over 50 exciting years in radiology.
Denny was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman all his life. He enjoyed participating in his children’s school and extracurricular activities over the years. He especially enjoyed his time spent with grandchildren and visiting the Sebastian River Buffer Preserve every weekend scouting for wildlife.
Denny was a member of First Baptist Church in Vero Beach for over 25 years then moved membership to King’s Baptist Church in Vero Beach for the last 15 years.

Joanne Battaglini, 86, Vero Beach
August 01, 1935 – January 27, 2022
Joanne Battaglini, 86, passed away peacefully in Vero Beach, Florida on January 27, 2022.
She was born to the late Peter and Irene (Nicholas) Hronis on August 1, 1935 in Endicott, NY where she graduated from Union-Endicott High School. She married her high-school sweetheart, the late Donald Kenneth (Ken) Battaglini, and together they raised their family in nearby Endwell. They later moved to Surfside Beach, SC where they enjoyed many winters in the sunshine.
Small in stature, Joanne was a spitfire. She had a big personality, big heart and big laugh. She loved gardening and golfing, bowling and volleyball, and had a flair for color, design and decorating. Never one to sit idle, Joanne was talented in all things creative – crochet, knitting, macramé – but her greatest passion and expertise was sewing. She would burn the midnight oil making clothes for her family and friends, bridesmaid dresses, Barbie doll clothes, draperies, bedding and upholstery, and doing alterations. She and Ken successfully merged their Greek and Italian heritages, and enjoyed cooking their specialty dishes and entertaining family and friends at their home where everyone was welcome.
While raising her family, Joanne managed a furniture store where her people skills and talent in interior design were on full display. She loved to visit customers’ homes to design room layouts, and eventually became the corporate buyer and trainer over all the stores in upstate NY. In her retirement, she started her own small business – Little Blessings – making heirloom christening gowns.
In her later years, Joanne never let Alzheimer’s define her. Even as the disease progressed, her character never changed; she remained the lively, personable and caring person that she always was. The family would like to thank her caregivers at Pelican Landing in Sebastian, FL and the compassionate staff at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.
Joanne was pre-deceased by her son Randy Sam Battaglini, daughter-in-law Diane (Shupp) Battaglini, and her sister Constance Klimash. She is survived by her four children: Donald B. Battaglini (Endwell), Denise Battaglini (Vero Beach, FL), Debra (Steven) Pert (Binghamton), and Jennifer (Brooke) Raser (Wheatland, WY); she was Gram and ”Yiayia” to her seven beloved grandchildren: Michael (Corinne) Battaglini, Joseph (Sherri) Battaglini, Mackenzie Pert, Bryan (Laura) Pert, Nicholas Pert, Lee Raser and Kenny Raser; two great-grandsons: Case and Christopher Battaglini; her sister-in-law Eleanor Convertino, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held by the Rev. Clarence Rumble on Friday, February 4 at 11am at Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell, NY, where the family will receive friends at 10am prior to mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joanne’s memory to the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County, 2300 5th Ave, Suite 150, Vero Beach, FL 32960; or Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 North McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
