Jose R. Agüero, 78, Vero Beach

August 07, 1943 – January 15, 2022

Jose R. Agüero, known as “Papo” passed away January 15, 2022 in Vero Beach, Florida. He was 78 years old. He peacefully passed away surrounded by those he loved and will always be regarded as the best father and husband.

He was born August 7, 1943 in Pinal del Rio, Cuba.

Papo came from a large family, a brother of nine siblings before leaving Cuba. He arrived in Marathon, Florida and settled in West New York, NJ where he lived for many years and raised his family. After retiring from NJ Transit, where he gave 29 years of service, he moved back to Florida and enjoyed retirement in Key Largo, Florida. Lastly, he resided in Vero Beach, Florida where he lived with his daughter, Margaret.

Papo was a huge sports fan – he loved watching baseball; he loved to make people laugh and to tell jokes; he loved the beach; he loved watching action movies; and he read The Godfather many times throughout his life.

We hold dearly the great memories of Papo playing baseball with his son in the park, going to his favorite Cuban bakery for pasteles, his grand enthusiasm when watching football, becoming a grandfather, family vacations, bungee jumping with his daughter, playing poker and drinking cold beer.

He was predeceased by father, Nicholas Agüero; mother, Margarita Agüero; father-in-law, Antonio Hurtado; and mother-in-law, Mercedes Hurtado.

Survivors include son, Anthony W. Agüero and daughter-in-law, Alejandra Marin-Agüero; granddaughter, Mia A. Agüero; daughter, Margaret M. Agüero; mother of his children, Alba M. Agüero-Josko; friend, Robert M. Josko; his faithful fur companions, Jerry, Amber, Jenna, and family and friends in Florida, Texas, New Jersey and Cuba.
