Care for Caregivers at the Center for Spiritual Care

New Caregiver Support Group Meetings to Begin January 26th

Although the weight of chronic illness falls most heavily on the patient, overlooking the responsibility shouldered by the caregiver is an invitation to illness for that person as well. The best preventive medicine for this is when caregivers share their experiences with others who understand and, in return, hear about coping strategies that may help lighten the load. Reach Out, a new support group for caregivers set to begin meeting on January 26 at the Center for Spiritual Care in Vero Beach, was created to foster this vital exchange.

The meetings, scheduled for Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. through March 9, will be facilitated by Lin Reading, co-founder of the Friends After Diagnosis cancer support organization, and Allan Teger, Ph.D. (psychology), previously on the faculty at University of Pennsylvania and Boston University.

“Anyplace with a higher concentration of retirees also has a larger population of caregivers, and a greater need for meetings like this,” says Center for Spiritual Care founder Carol Ludwig. “The Reach Out caregiver support group is a great new extension of the Center’s commitment to holistic health in our community.”

There is no charge to attend the meetings and no reservations are necessary. For the safety of all participating and their loved ones, masks and proof of vaccination against COVID-19 are required at the meetings.

The Center for Spiritual Care is located at 1550 24th Street in Vero Beach. For more information, contact the Center at 772-567-1233 or centerforspiritualcare.org.
