(VERO BEACH, FL) In honor of Veterans Day, the Veterans Council of Indian River County invites the community to attend a Veterans Day Ceremony Thursday, November 11th, 2021 at 8:45 am on Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary in Vero Beach’s Riverside Park. This event is free to the public.

The Veterans Council of Indian River County is honored to have Col. Carlos Halcomb, USAF, (Ret) as this year’s speaker at the Veterans Day Ceremony.  Col. Halcomb spent his career as an Air Force Air Commando flying special operations helicopters and commanding special operations forces worldwide. He served as the Deputy Commander for the Department of Defense Manned Spaceflight Support Office training NASA Astronauts and military forces around the world on launch and recovery operations supporting the Space Shuttle mission. Following retirement, Col. Halcomb flew for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center and was also the Airport Administrative Manager for the Vero Beach Regional Airport. Colonel Halcomb is a combat veteran of Operation DESERT STORM, BOSNIA/CROATIA, Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM, and other combat operations other than war. Among others, his awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Aerial Achievement Medal.

“The Veterans Council is proud to present the Veterans Day Ceremony to our community. We owe our veterans so much more than our memories and we are here to celebrate them,”   said Jim Romanek, Executive Director of the Veterans Council.

The ceremony will include full military honors, with the Parade of the Colors by veteran groups.  In addition, a new WWI monument will be dedicated by the Indian River Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, a member organization of the Veterans Council.

The ceremony will start promptly at 9:00 am.  Ample parking is available at Riverside Park. Please remember to bring your lawn chair to enjoy this ceremony honoring our veterans.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.
