Earlier story:

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One person was killed when a flatbed truck slammed into a tree and caught fire Friday afternoon near northbound Interstate 95, authorities said. The crash blocked northbound lanes on the interstate, according to the Florida Highway Patrol traffic map.

Highway troopers were dispatched to the deadly wreck about 4 p.m. on I-95 near mile marker 148, north of State Road 60, the map showed. Troopers said the flatbed truck went off the roadway and struck a tree in the median.

The truck ignited in flames during the crash, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said. The single-vehicle collision closed the northbound lanes in the immediate area.

The driver of the flatbed truck was pronounced dead on the scene, Kofke said. No further details on the crash were available.

Motorists should seek alternate routes, highway troopers said.

It was unclear when the roadway was expected to reopen. Highway troopers will investigate the cause of the wreck.
