Man struck, killed by vehicle in Wednesday crash


INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Deputies continue to investigate a Wednesday crash that claimed the life of an unidentified 51-year-old man in south county.

The collision happened about 10 p.m. at 27th Avenue Southwest and Oslo Road, Indian River County sheriff’s officials said. Officials said a vehicle struck the man as he was walking.

It was unclear if he was walking in the roadway or on the sidewalk.

The man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce with serious head injuries, sheriff’s officials said. He was later pronounced dead by doctors.

The wreck briefly closed 27th Avenue in both directions. No charges have been filed in the case.

The crash remains under investigation.
