Louise (Ethel) Ring, 92, Fort Pierce

December 31, 1928 – October 04, 2021

Louise (Ethel) Ring, age 92, died October, 4 2021 in Vero Beach, Florida.

She was born in Glasgow, Scotland to the late John and Ethel Campbell. She moved from Long Island, New York to Florida in 1974.  She resided in Ft Pierce, Florida for 30 years.

She retired from the fraud department with American Express Company in Ft Lauderdale, Florida in 1991.

Ethel was a member of St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Vero Beach, Florida. She was a member of many clubs and activities in the Spanish Lakes Fairways of Ft Pierce where she resided for 30 years.

Ms. Ring was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt H.S in Bronx, New York.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Ring; son, Richard Ring; 4 granddaughters, Shannon Gommer, Pamela Jasmer, Tina McIntyre and Stacey Ring; 5 great-grandchildren Nick, Jacob, Nathan, Preston and Emma.

She was predeceased by her son, Russell Ring, Jr and her husband of 54 years, Russell Ring Sr.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Augustine Episcopal Church, 475 43rd Ave, Vero Beach Fl. 32968 with a date and time to be determined.

Ruth Dorothy Frey, 91, Sebastian

April 25, 1930 – September 22, 2021

Ruth Dorothy Frey, 91, passed away September 22, 2021 at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach, FL. 

Ruth was born in Valley Stream, New York graduating from Long Island Central High School.  After graduation, she worked in the Diamond District as a buyer, as a switchboard operator with the Telephone Company and later years as an Ophthalmic Assistant to Suffolk Ophthalmology in Bayshore, New York. 

Growing up she loved to roller skate and had even participated in competitions.  It was at one of these events she met her husband John—they dated, married and started a family.  Mom and Dad took their skating talent to the dance floor where at family weddings they could really “cut the rug”. 

As the family grew, Mom was very active in Ascension Lutheran Church, Deer Park, N.Y. youth activities such as Luther League, Sunday School Teacher, and organized a Social for Senior’s to attend.  

After raising their family, Mom and Dad moved to Florida, settled in Fort Pierce, then later in Sebastian, FL.  Mom continued to work as an Ophthalmic Assistant with Dr. Branigan in Vero Beach, FL until she retired. 

Mom continued her volunteerism at Our Savior Lutheran Church, in Vero Beach, FL and later at Christ the King Lutheran Church, in Sebastian, FL where she visited members of the church. 

Mom loved and kept a beautiful home and yard.  She loved birds, especially cardinals.  She had and “eye” for interior decorating and fashion. Mom took pride in her family and family accomplishments. 

Mom was preceded in death by her husband John.  Survivors include: daughter, Linda Briante (Mike); son, Scott Frey (Linda); son, John Frey (Tamara Maddox); grandsons, Michael Briante (Sarah Decaro); Paul Briante, and Ryan Frey; and great granddaughter Allison Briante. 

Mom is also survived by her sister, Susan Frey and many nieces, nephews and friends. 

Mom received wonderful, loving, professional care from the staff of People Care Nursing Service, New York; Pelican Landing Assisted Living in Sebastian, Florida; Palm Garden of Vero Beach, FL and Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Vero Beach, FL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charity of one’s choice. 

A church service will be held on October 14, 2021 at 1pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Vero Beach, FL.; followed by burial at Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach, FL.

Geraldine “Gerry” Phylis Staublein, 86, Port Salerno

September 11, 1935 – September 26, 2021

Geraldine “Gerry” Phylis Staublein, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of September 26th at the age of 86.

She was born in Webster Springs, West Virginia, September 11th, 1935, to the late Martin Francis Miller and Josephine Lough Miller.

At 6 months old in 1936 Gerry suffered from Spinal Meningitis which caused her to have a stroke giving her paralysis on her right side and cause her to have short term memory loss. She was not expected to survive. Over Gerry’s childhood years and young adult life she and her family made it their goal to be sure regardless of her disabilities she would be self sufficient. She grew into a strong independent woman, who helped and cared for anyone in need. She never met a stranger.

She lived in Webster Springs, West Virginia until 1966 when she moved to Port Salerno, Florida. Gerry made a life for herself, working hard, starting a small cleaning business, detailing mobile homes. She became more of a companion and helper of the ill and elderly than a cleaning lady. Gerry then worked for the Martin County School District as a custodian where she was “the best and fastest worker they ever had”. Retiring at the age of 72, she finished her working career at Sears and JC Penny in the Simon Mall at Jensen Beach. .

Gerry was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jacob J. Staublein; infant son, Jacob J. Staublein, Jr.; Daughter, Becky Jo Staublein; eigtht brothers, Eldis, Warden, Arthur, Martin, Charles, Chilton, Shelton and Melton Miller; three sister, Dorotha Miller Cavendish, Winafred Miller Mustoe & Joellen Miller VanWestenberg and husband Martin.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Cummins and husband, Steven; grandchildren, Christina Strunk, Michael Holder, Bryan Holder, Sarah Cummins Perry, Benjamin Jr, Thomas and Elizabeth Ward; and 3 great grandchildren; a special Niece, Becky Ropp and husband Frank and many other loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

She will be laid to rest in Webster Springs, West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your local food bank or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Deacon James J. Ross, 77, Vero Beach

May 17, 1944 – October 4, 2021

Deacon James J. Ross, 77, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021 at his home in Vero Beach.

Jim was born in Salt Rock, West Virginia and moved to Vero Beach in 1985 from West Virginia.

He had been a Construction and Property Manager and had most recently been a property manager for Southwinds in The Moorings in Vero Beach. 

Jim was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, Florida where he had served as a Deacon. He could often be found enjoying one of his favorite past times either fishing or hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Patricia Ross of Vero Beach, sons; James Allen Ross (Lisa), Jeffrey Lee Ross (Lisa) of Vero Beach, and Jody Darren Ross (Sandi) all of Vero Beach, brothers; Gene Darrell Ross (Donna) of Vero Beach and Carmie Lee Ross of Barboursville, West Virginia, a  sister, JoAnn Collins (Vince) of North Brook, Virginia, grandchildren; Shelby, Charity, Sasha, Aidan, and James, and great-grandchildren; Raylynn and Madison.

He was preceded in death by sisters Patricia Boucher and Shirley Berry.

A funeral service celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday October 9, 2021 at Bethel Baptist Church in Vero Beach.

Harold W. “Jim” Copeland Jr., 78, Sebastian

May 17, 1943 – October 04, 2021

Mr. Harold W. “Jim” Copeland Jr., 78, died October 4, 2021 at Cleveland Clinic – Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach, Florida.

He was born in Sullivan, Indiana and moved to Sebastian, Florida where has enjoyed semi-retirement as he still enjoyed going to work.

Survivors include his daughter, Shannon Barrett of Noblesville, Indiana, and companion, Dawn Durling of Sebastian, FL.

Jim will be interred at Center Ridge Cemetery, Sullivan, Indiana.

Dorothy (Dotty) Jo Owens, 70

December 5, 1950 – October 3, 2021

Dorothy (Dotty) Jo Owens passed away peacefully on October 3, 2021 at Kindred Hospital in Melbourne, Florida.

She was born in Fort Pierce, Florida on December 5, 1950. Dotty graduated from Dan McCarty High School in 1969.

Dotty grew up fishing and hunting on the ranch where she was raised and those were her favorite things to do for her entire life. Spending time outdoors at their Deseret Ranch hunting lease, sitting by the Indian River and enjoying time with family and friends were where she found happiness.

Survivors include sister Linda (Rick) Minton of Fort Pierce; niece Sam (Brad) Phares, great niece Jacqueline Phares, great nephew Jared Phares all of Okeechobee. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Don Owens; parents, Ken and Louise Holland and sister, Patty Williams.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 1:00 PM followed by a celebration of Dotty’s life at 2:00 PM at Strunk Funeral Home Chapel, 1623 North Central Avenue, Sebastian, Florida 32958 with Pastor Doug Vogt, Pathway Church in Vero Beach, celebrant. Interment will follow at Winter Beach Cemetery, Winter Beach, FL.

Elizabeth (Betty) Brown, 70, of Barefoot Bay FL passed away on September 30, 2021, loosing her battle with lung cancer. She was born in Boston MA before moving to Barefoot Bay in 2005 where she worked in the Barefoot Bay pro for 10 years.

A celebration of life will be when she returns to her beloved Cape Cod.

Brian D Lynch Jr., 51

May 22, 1970 – September 21, 2021

Brian D Lynch Jr., 51, passed away at Sebastian Hospital surrounded by his family on Tuesday September 21, 2021.

Brian was born to Gloria and Brian Lynch Sr. on May 22, 1970, in Danbury, CT. Brian was predeceased by his sister Brenda Hernandez.

Brian was married to Jenesa Lynch for 23 years and had 2 Sons, Brandon J. Lynch and Daniel W. Lynch.

He will be fondly remembered by his brother Sean Lynch and all his cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Brian was a certified ASC Honda Technician and loved working on cars and going to the races. He owned and operated his carpet cleaning business in Sebastian for over 15 years.

A Service will be held at Crossroads Christian Fellowship 10205 US Highway 1, Sebastian, FL on Saturday October 9th at 10 A.M.
