COVID-19 drive-thru testing site to open at IG Center Friday

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Residents will have access to a COVID-19 drive-thru testing site – no appointment required – starting Friday at the Intergenerational Recreation Center, county officials said.

The new testing site was made possible through a collaboration between county commissioners, the Florida Department of Health in Indian River County and Curative, a healthcare company which provides rapid COVID-19 testing. The tests are at no cost to the patients, officials said.

“Curative is proud to be launching a testing site for the Indian River County community and be a crucial resource during this pandemic,” Fred Turner, CEO and co-founder of Curative, said in a statement. “Curative’s goal is to make testing more accessible with our easy drive-thru site. We offer a simple testing option with quick 24-to-48 hour results upon receipt at our labs delivered directly and at no cost to patients.”

The testing site will open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. The regular site hours will be the same time frame from Wednesday through Sunday, county officials said.

County officials said self-collected, shallow nasal PCR tests will be available for patients at the test site. Test results are delivered electronically within 48 hours after the lab receives the sample.

The Intergenerational Recreation Center is located at 1590 9th Street Southwest, north of Oslo Road. Those who want to get a COVID-19 test should bring a form of identification and wear a facemask.
