INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An unidentified person was critically injured after being struck by a pickup truck Tuesday morning, sheriff’s officials said.
The crash happened about 7:40 a.m. at 16th Street and 66th Avenue. Indian River County sheriff’s officials closed 66th Avenue in both directions for more than an hour.
The pedestrian was flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, sheriff’s spokesperson Debbie Carson said. The condition of the pickup driver was unknown.
Further details on the pedestrian and driver were not immediately available.
Sheriff’s officials reopened 66th Avenue about 9 a.m., Carson said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
