Susan Lee Ellis-Peters, 69, Vero Beach

February 21, 1952 – August 27, 2021

Susan Lee Ellis-Peters, age 69, passed away August 27, 2021 at her home in Vero Beach.

She was born February 21, 1952 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Dr. Richard Lee Peters and Audrey S. Peters.

She attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Susan was a former member of Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra in Winter Park, Florida.

Susan was a Master Designer at Flower World Florist for over 35 years. She loved all flowers, but Sunflowers were her favorite.

She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph P. Ellis; her daughter, Jessamine Ellis of Vero Beach, Florida; sisters, Barbara Ann Peters of Hudson, Massachusetts, Lynn Peters Sadler of Sebastian, Florida and Bethany Stang of Lenoir, North Carolina; and one grandchild.

She was predeceased by her aunt, Karen Linda Smith.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

John Joseph (“Jack”) Tobin, 86, Vero Beach

April 10, 1935 – August 30, 2021

John Joseph (“Jack”) Tobin, 86 of Vero Beach, FL, and formerly of Hobe Sound, FL, Garden City, NY, and Cutchogue, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Jack was born in Brooklyn, NY in April 1935.  He was the son of John and Anne Beatty Tobin.  He graduated from Garden City High School and Hofstra University and served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army.  In 1958, he married Fern Marguerite Mauser, with whom he shared a loving 53-year marriage.  After the military, Jack became a successful insurance underwriter for The Home Insurance Company and excelled in sales and service.  He later joined his father-in-law and grew a thriving independent agency which continues to this day.  Jack was also an active member of The Lion’s Club in Garden City, the North Fork Country Club in Cutchogue, and the board of The Arbors in Hobe Sound.  Jack will always be remembered for his warmth, strong moral compass, love and devotion to his wife and family, devout Irish Catholic faith, cherished friendships, love of dogs and golf, and his ability to give the right advice to everyone who needed it, when they needed it.  He will be greatly missed.

Jack is survived by his children, Nancy Robertson (Mark) of Stewart Manor, NY, Timothy Tobin (Kimberly) of Garden City, NY, and Charlotte Sturdy (David) of Scituate, MA, as well as his grandchildren John (Jack), Charles, Samuel, Benjamin, Katherine, Timothy, Murphy, and Anneliese.   Jack was pre-deceased by his parents and siblings, Nancy, Joan, and Thomas.

It is the family’s wish that any memorial tribute be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (https://t2t.org).

A celebration of life will be held in the near future.

Shannon I. Garneau, 68, Micco

January 31, 1953 – August 31, 2021

Shannon I. Garneau, 68, of Micco, Florida passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Vitas Hospice in Rockledge, Florida.

He was born on January 31, 1953 in Berlin, New Hampshire. The son of Leo and Elizabeth Lane Garneau. He attended schools in Barton, VT, Norway, ME, and Bethel, ME before graduating from South Portland high school in 1971.

Shannon was a zealot in everything he attempted; bodybuilding, spirituality, music and of course his craft as a welder. Shannon’s love for his grandchildren was unabashed and joyous. His effervescent energy and charisma were magnetic. Everyone he met and engaged with would never forget him. He was the proverbial oxygen in the room and whether you agreed with him or not; conversations that ensued with Shannon were always vibrant, witty and passionate! We will miss those exchanges.

For the past six years, Shannon really enjoyed life and living in Micco, FL with his wife Shawn. He made many friends in his Pelican Bay community. He was in his glory mowing lawns, playing his harmonica, and enjoying all the wildlife Florida has to offer.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shawn M. Garneau of Micco, FL; brothers, Dan Garneau of Dover, NH, and Phil Garneau and his wife, Karen of South Portland, ME; sister, Elysa Donovan and her husband, Peter of South Portland, ME; daughters, Jessica Violette and her husband, Spencer, Kristy Walter and her husband, Andrew, and Lea Pollard and her husband, Brandon; stepchildren, Dana Myles and her husband, Patrick, Christopher Tait and his fiancée, Bianca, and Kevin Tait and his wife, Jessica, all of Maine;  former spouse, Karen Thomas of Gray; and several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his second wife, Colleen Garneau.

Joanne Johnson Miller, 90, Vero Beach

July 09, 1931 – August 24, 2021

Joanne Johnson Miller, 90, of Vero Beach, Florida passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2021. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 9, 1931 to Winnifred Campbell and Kennebert Johnson. She graduated with an associates degree in business from Boston University. She worked as an executive secretary for U.S. Senator Saltonstall of Massachusetts before marrying the late William James Davidson Miller of West Newton, Massachusetts in 1954.

She served on the Illinois State Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters, was a Girl Scout leader, and established the very first recycling program in the Chicago area. She was an avid curler and was on the national women’s championship team in 1972. During her years in Florida she was a long-time member of the Indian River Golf Club and did volunteer work for the Special Olympics, the Humane Society, Head, Heart, and Hands, and the Scully-Welsh Cancer Center.

She is survived by her daughters Stacy Miller Leonard and Kristen Miller McFarland; grandchildren, Sean William Miller Leonard, Merideth Kathleen Leonard, Kaele Michelle Leonard and great grandson, William Peregrine Leonard.

A Celebration of Joanne’s Life will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 5 pm at the Indian River Club clubhouse. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Head, Heart, and Hands charity of the Indian River Golf Club.

Terry William Wade, 78, of Sebastian, passed away on August 20, 2021.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Phyliss, a daughter, April, a son, William, two grandchildren, Emerson and Noah, and three sisters, Brenda, Sandy, and Gloria.

Terry served his country during the Vietnam War in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.

He enjoyed fishing, and playing with his two Pomeranians.

Terry was always there to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed and lives on in our hearts.
