The Gifford Youth Orchestra Summer Camp, under the direction of Marissa Rollins concluded a fun-filled week of lessons and activities. Marissa, a graduate of the GYO and a Sunrise Rotary VB music scholarship winner, staff members, volunteers and 18 students enjoyed music lessons in violin, piano, and voice as well as daily arts and crafts. Each day ended by either swimming at the aquatic center or playing games (including water balloon toss) at the Victor Hart Park.
The kids enjoyed the daily lunch delivered in a food truck by The Source Dining with Dignity and were treated to hot dogs, hamburgers or chicken tenders along with fries and mac and cheese. On Friday, the week ended with a delightful performance with the students singing “This Little Light of Mine” and the violin and piano students demonstrating what they learned during the week of instruction followed by lunch donated by the 53rd Street McDonald’s owner Joe Conrado.
Each morning when the kids arrived at camp, they entered their name in the bicycle raffle and were treated to snacks provided by the Sunrise Rotary Club Vero Beach. On Friday, the bike was raffled off and the winner was camper Aaron Romero.
As a result of the camp, several new students applied for enrollment in piano and violin classes with Gifford Youth Orchestra who will start with live classes in the next few weeks.
