Howard Glenn Schacht, 68, Vero Beach

July 15, 1952 – July 10, 2021

Howard Glenn Schacht, a native of Vero Beach, Florida, died unexpectedly on July 10th 2021, at the age of 68.

Glenn is survived by his mother, Laura Jeannette Schacht, of Vero Beach, sons Jeremy and Jonathan of Hayesville, North Carolina, and brothers Dan, Alan, Andy, and David, all of Vero Beach.  He is predeceased by his father, Howard Schacht.

Glenn was born in Vero Beach on July 15th, 1952 to Jeannette and Howard Schacht. He attended and graduated Vero Beach High School in 1970.  He was a member in good standing of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, Local 323. He was a loyal and active member of the local Moose  chapter in Vero Beach, where he enjoyed shooting pool and pitching horseshoes with his friends. Glenn had recently begun enjoying alligator hunting and speck fishing. He was also a very enthusiastic amateur birdwatcher, and took thousands of pictures.

Visitation will be held Friday night, July 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach, Florida. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 17th at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach. Pastor Becky Calahan will officiate the service.

Patti Louis Sherman Jones, 88, Vero Beach

November 15, 1932 – July 3, 2021

On July 3rd, 2021, Patti Louis Sherman Jones, aged 88, of Vero Beach, Florida, slipped from this life into the hands of her personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born to Richard G. and Patti M. Sherman on November 15th, 1932, in Elizabethtown, NY, as the eldest of ten children, she graduated from Westport Central School, Westport, NY as the 1949 valedictorian and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree at Skidmore College.

Following a short career in the New York City retail fashion world, Patti moved to Rockland, Maine, where she planned and partnered in the House of Cards, a Hallmark specialty store. In 1983, she married the love of her life, Walter H. Jones, a former Vice President at Burlington Industries, and not long after their marriage, both Patti and Walter relocated to Vero Beach, Florida.

During her life, she took great pride in the job of a definitive Homemaker and had an extraordinary flair for art in the kitchen. During her lifetime, her recipes won multiple national cooking awards in numerous categories. Patti also enthusiastically created traditional art as well, with watercolors as her favored medium. Her works earned accolades at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, and she served for a time on the board of the Art Club of Vero Beach. She also never forgot her collegiate alma mater and was active in the Skidmore Alumni Club of the Treasure Coast.

While preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Jones, and her sister Anne, Patti is survived by her only son and his wife, William and Carol Mallia of Plymouth, MA, nine brothers and sisters including, Richard and Juliann Sherman of Westport, NY, Susan Sherman of Westport, NY, William and Linda Sherman of Vero Beach, FL, Roderick and Anna of Plattsburgh, NY, Rebecca and Timothy Marvin of Live Oak, FL, Elisabeth and Lawrence Lewis of Vero Beach, FL, Samuel and Derinda Sherman of Westport, NY, and Timothy and Gwen Sherman of Westport, NY. Two grandchildren also survive Patti, Erin Mallia of Fort Myers, FL and Cameron Mallia of Plymouth, MA, numerous nieces, nephews, and the sons and daughter of Walter H. Jones, W. Steven and Charla Jones of Prescott, AZ, Scott Jones and Mary Cordaro of Valley Village, CA, and Kathleen and Daniel Dyer and their three children, Steven, Rebecca, and Margret.

Following cremation, a church memorial service to celebrate Patti’s very robust life will be held in October. Donations made in lieu of flowers will be used to honor Patti Louis Sherman Jones and should be forwarded to St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, 901 Clearmont Street, Sebastian, FL 32958.
