Robert Sherman Perrott, Jr., 88, Vero Beach

April 25, 1933 – July 9, 2021

Robert Sherman Perrott, Jr. of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away July 9, following complications after heart surgery. He was 88 years old. In his last days he was surrounded and lovingly cared for by his cherished wife Betsy, and his loving sons Andrew and Jeffrey.

Robert, ‘Sherman,’ ‘Bob,’ or ‘Whitey’ – as he was known to Lower Merion High School friends –  was born April 25, 1933 to Robert Sherman Perrott, Sr. and Mary Schenck Perrott. After completing a post-graduate year at the Haverford School, Robert matriculated to Williams College in 1951.  At his beloved Williams, he was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity and played soccer for four years, earning All-New England honors as a senior.

After his June 1955 graduation from Williams, he attended Navy Officer Candidate School, was commissioned Ensign in November, and eventually served on the USS Randolph, of the 6th fleet, from 1957 to 1958. His beloved daughter Kimberly was born in 1956 to his first wife Katherine Crawford.  They were divorced in 1959.

Robert met the love of his life Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Hagar in late 1961.  The lifelong, devoted partners were married on April 28, 1962. Son Jeffrey Hagar Perrott was born in 1966, and son Andrew Sherman Perrott was born in 1968.

‘Bob’ – as he was known to his business colleagues – started at Smith, Kline & French (SKF) Laboratories in Philadelphia in 1960, and in 1970 he was named Director of Materials Management in SKF’s Manufacturing Division. He was appointed Chief Financial Officer of SKF subsidiary Krautkramer-Branson in 1972, and in 1977 became President of Krautkramer-Branson International, a global supplier of non-destructive testing instruments and systems.  Bob joined the Stackpole Corporation in Boston in 1983, holding executive positions in Stackpole’s Electronic and Carbon Divisions until his retirement in 1998.

In retirement, Robert and Betsy moved to Vero Beach, Florida, and summered in Manchester, Vermont, where golf, duplicate bridge, 3 mile walks, and spending time with friends and family became their happy routine.  Manchester also put them close to Robert’s beloved Williams College.  Always devoted to his Alma Mater, he threw himself into fundraising, class agency, and other volunteer work for the ‘Ephs’ – and almost never missed a home soccer or football game.

In 2008 he got a new nickname—‘Pop’—when his first granddaughter Coco was born to his son Jeffrey and his wife Alexandra Rousseau Perrott. Soon Coco and her two sisters Lili and Cici were giving Pop all he could handle, and in turn he showered them with endless love, tickles, games and trivia.

Robert was predeceased by his parents Robert and Mary, his daughter Kimberly, and his younger brother Joseph Schenck Perrott.

He is survived by his loving wife Betsy, his younger sister Sandra Perrott Drew, his devoted sons Jeff and Andy, his daughter-in-law Alexandra, and his three granddaughters Coco, Lili, and Cici.

No services are planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Williams College Alumni Fund, in memory of Robert S. Perrott, Class of 1955.

Thomas E. DePaoli, 88, Barefoot Bay

(1932-2021)

After a long illness, Thomas E. DePaoli, of Barefoot Bay, Florida, formerly of Irvington, New York, went home to be with God and his beloved son Russell.  Tom was born in Dobbs Ferry, New York to James and Eleanor (Martin) DePaoli in 1932 and resided in his hometown of Irvington for 55 of his 88 years. The second of five children, Tom was predeceased by his brother James (Betty) DePaoli and his sister Nancy (DePaoli) Belloise.  He is survived by his sister Susan and brother Richard.

Tom was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. When thanked for his service to his country, Tom always replied, “And I’d do it again in a heartbeat.” To honor all those who served, Tom was a charter Member of the American Legion Post #366.

Tom first met Lorraine (Kosilla) at a friend’s wedding, but their relationship blossomed after Tom suffered a mishap at a Fireman’s Bazaar sending him directly to the hospital where Lorraine worked. Tom knew he had met the woman he would marry, and he and his bride went on to share 65 years together, marrying on June 2, 1956.

Tom worked for the Village of Irvington giving his heart and soul for its benefit, whether it was through the many positions he held or through the help he offered a neighbor in need.  He retired from his job as Supt. of Public Works after more than 40 years of service.  Additionally, he was a former chief of the Irvington Fire Department, a volunteer position that remained dear to his heart along with the many friendships he made over the years.

A gifted athlete, Tom played many sports.  Over the years he swam, played softball, golf, tennis, racketball, basketball, bowling, and horseshoes.  He was President of the Barefoot Bay Horseshoe Club for 20 years.  A die-hard baseball fan for his entire life, there was nothing Tom loved more than a New York Yankee win-and there was nothing he hated more than a relief pitcher!

Some of the best memories his adult children recall about their father are fishing and crabbing in the Hudson River, sledding and tobogganing in the winter, apple and cherry picking (especially when he fell out of a tree!), and the numerous backyard picnics, outings, barbecues, and family reunions he hosted over a lifetime.

As a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Micco, Florida, he dedicated his time and talent as a member of the men’s group and coordinated cookouts and golfing events.

Together they raised 5 children: Laura (Bill) Jones of Sebastian, Florida; Michael (Christine) of North Salem, New York;  Christopher (Maureen) DePaoli of Irvington, New York; and Janet (Jimmy) Reich of Irvington, New York.  Tom and Lorraine’s youngest son, Russell John, predeceased him in 1986. He cherished his 6 grandchildren: Emily and Will Jones, Lara and Natasha DePaoli, Alexandra and Ryan DePaoli and his two great grandchildren: Russell and Ben Reich.

A public viewing will be held at Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, 1623 North Central Avenue, Sebastian, Florida on Thursday, July 15th from 9-9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 at St. Luke Catholic Church in  Micco Florida with Father Tony Welle, celebrant.

A wake will be held at Edwards/Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY on Monday, July 19th, 4-8 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held the next day, Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Irvington, NY.  Interment will take place at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, New York immediately following the Mass.
