Glide and Sway during Orchestral ‘Dance Party’
Space Coast Symphony features Rachmaninoff classic and more
(VERO BEACH, FL) July 5, 2021 – The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra continues its 13th performing season with terpsichorean classics during Dance Party at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 18 at the Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd Street, 32960. The program of dance music features works from Marquez, Rachmaninoff, and Joseph. Inspired by a Cuban dance, Arturo Marquez’s “Danzón No. 2” is one of the most popular and frequently performed Mexican contemporary classical orchestral pieces. The rhythmic interest in the piece is maintained through the use of varying accents and tempo and was composed following a visit to a Vera Cruz ballroom. Anchoring the program is Symphonic Dances by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The composer’s final work, the orchestral showpiece is a study in dramatic contrasts, with vivid emotional colors characterizing each of the three movements. The world premiere of Thomas Joseph’s Concerto Dystonia for horn and orchestra is also on the program, presented by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra’s principal horn player, Joesph Lovinsky. Lovinsky is the former principal horn player of The United States Army Band, as well as The Army Orchestra and The Army Brass Quintet. Utilizing different playing techniques, Concerto Dystonia depicts a skillful performer’s gradual decline in technical ability. The personal work chronicles the composer’s own battle with task-specific focal dystonia, the same neurological condition that forced SCSO conductor Aaron Collins to give up horn playing. $30 advance tickets for adults are available through the orchestra website at SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at beachside and mainland branches of Marine Bank & Trust. ABOUT THE SPACE COAST SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA— The SCSO is a lively and passionate Central Florida orchestra comprised of professional musicians, music educators and mentored amateurs of exceptional ability. The Orchestra was formed by Conductor and Artistic Director Aaron T. Collins with a two-fold mission: to provide mentoring and performance opportunities for Florida’s finest young musicians as well as to provide professional concerts at genuinely affordable prices. 37-year old Aaron T. Collins is garnering recognition for his achievements. LEAD Brevard named the ambitious Collins one of their “4 under 40” Young Professionals, the youngest-ever recipient of the honor. Space Coast Business magazine listed him as one of Brevard’s “100 Most Admired Businesspeople.” Collins is a past recipient of the Richard A. Stark Award for cultural leadership from the Cultural Council of Indian River County. Through his personal involvement with more than a dozen performing arts groups, pioneering reciprocal ad program and social media cross promotions, Collins has gained a reputation for generosity; championing other arts organizations throughout Central Florida for the cultural enrichment of the community.

In keeping with their mission, the symphony provides a unique Symphony for Everyone ticketing program, a “pay-what-you-can” option designed to provide substantially discounted admission to any Space Coast Symphony concert (PLEASE NOTE: availability may vary during Covid pandemic). Relying on a non-traditional orchestra model and a slim budget, the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is one of only 19 U.S. orchestras to perform year-round.
