Vero Beach, FL – June 14, 2021 – Vero Beach Rowing Women’s Co-captains Zadie Diniz and Liliana Elliott just wrapped up their freshman year at Vero Beach High School but once on the water, these two 15-year-olds are unintimidated by high school rowers older and bigger than they are. Nowhere was that more evident than at the US Rowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota this past weekend when the pair roared past teams from much larger clubs to close out the season with the fifth fastest time in the national championship for the 2000 meter U17 double event.
Just a few weeks earlier, Diniz and Elliott rowed away from the field to win the U17 gold medal in the same event at the US Rowing Southeast Region Youth Rowing Championships in Oak Ridge, TE, besting teams from much larger clubs Gainesville and Sarasota.
Evan Losey, a rising senior, and recent graduate Nick O’Neill finished 28th out of 48 teams in the mens 2x in Sarasota.
Diniz, Elliott, and Losey, the returning rowers, are spending the summer actively recruiting middle school and high school athletes who are interested in joining Vero Beach Rowing for fitness or competition. No prior experience is required. Summer rowing camps now are in full swing for all experience levels from those who want to learn how to row to advanced, and high performance rowers. Scholarships are available for youth rowers and families are encouraged to apply. Adult rowing programs include entry level through performance classes and coached sessions. Learn-to-Row programs days are scheduled regularly. For information on any of these programs go to the Vero Beach Rowing website or all 772-261-0747.
