Florida’s waterways and Florida Citrus have always gone hand-in-hand. In fact, the Indian River Lagoon and Indian River Citrus are inextricably linked.
The presence of Florida’s wetlands, lakes and rivers afford some buffering against potential cold. The constant Florida sun, the well-drained calciferous soils, the subtropical rainfall and humidity allow citrus to thrive in Florida.
Of course, the Indian River District has all of that, and more.
The area’s unusually high water table and the beautiful Indian River Lagoon combine to create perfect growing conditions for the sweetest, most distinguished fruit in the world – Indian River fruit! In fact, the land that makes up the Indian River District is essentially the watershed of the Indian River Lagoon.
In the 1890s, Blackwood’s Edinburgh magazine wrote, “The Indian River orange is not to be mentioned in the same breath with ordinary oranges. Its a delicacy by itself, hitherto unknown in the world, and which Spain need never attempt to rival.”
So, what a fun way to honor and celebrate Indian River Citrus, with a custom built, custom decorated stand up paddleboard?
Made in Vero Beach Florida, this Dragonfly Boatworks LLC SUP is one of a kind. Decorated with reprinted vintage labels from Image360, you literally will not find one like it anywhere else in the world… As unique as Indian River Citrus itself!
A chance at winning this SUP is a delightful way to honor our heritage and connection, while supporting the private non-profit Vero Heritage, Inc that has the distinct pleasure of stewarding the Heritage Center and operating the Indian River Citrus Museum.
Most nonprofit museums rely on earned revenue from visitors passing through their doors; their economic lifeblood is people visiting. This past year’s closures, stay-at-home suggestions and general reluctance to visit due to COVID have all had a devastating impact on the nonprofit museum community, just like the small business community.
To help offset some of that loss, two small businesses worked together to create a one of kind fundraiser for Vero Heritage Inc.
