“Lace Up & Power On” with Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast
The Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast spring season culminated with each site holding on-site celebration 5K events throughout the month of May. With the theme of “Lace Up, Power On,” the 5K festivities were brought to each site and gave the elementary and middle school girls a tangible sense of achievement with the support of their families and school staff. The 5K sites were filled with decorated cheer signs, “Happy Hair” stations, and post-run snacks, and the girls were awarded medals and finisher certificates.
Jeane Bartlett, Council Director, shared, “We’re so proud to be safely celebrating the accomplishments of the 128 girls who participated in our spring program. We’re grateful for the site administrators and coaches who believed in our mission and gave the girls the opportunity to have afterschool healthy physical activity programs combined with social-emotional learning.”
Girls on the Run is a nationally known positive youth development program that uses running games and dynamic discussions to teach social emotional skills to girls in 3rd – 8th grades. During the 10-week program, girls participate in lessons that foster confidence and build peer connections. The participants learn about positively impacting others and develop their own community service projects. Spring season projects included writing notes to senior citizens, collecting snacks for law enforcement, gathering pet food items for an animal shelter, campus clean-ups, and designing posters and inspiring notes for essential workers and school staff.
Season sponsors who supported programming were the American Association of University Women Vero Beach Branch, The Rebecca Streetman Fund, Quail Valley Charities, and Sunrise Rotary Vero Beach. On-Site 5K sponsorships included Grove Place Surgery Center, Geneva Financial Services, and Kappa Kappa Iota – Zeta chapter. Together, these generous organizations gave the girls an impactful experience of defining strengths, team connection, and goal setting.

About Girls on the Run
Much more than a running program, Girls on the Run inspires girls in 3rd – 8th grades to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through a 10-week curriculum that includes dynamic discussions, activities, and fun running games. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
