State park wildfire fully contained, Forest Service says

Update: A large wildfire that ignited last Friday at St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park is fully contained, Florida Forest Service officials said in a 6 p.m. Tuesday update.

The “Tree Frog Fire” remained at 1,150 acres, Forest Service officials said. State firefighters said they will continue to monitor the area throughout the week to make sure the flames stay contained.

It could take several days before the fire is dead out, officials said.

No injuries were reported from the blaze. Forest Service officials think the fire originated from an unattended campfire.

An official cause for the fire has not yet been determined.

Forest Service officials said they think an unattended campfire caused the blaze. The official cause remains under investigation.

The Tree Frog Fire ignited Friday at St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park. Heavy smoke led authorities to close Interstate 95 for several hours in both directions on Friday, affecting thousands of motorists.

Motorists in the area should still use caution, as smoke from the fire could reduce visibility.
