ALMA LEE LOY BY HOSTING COMMUNITY APPRECIATION DAY

ON SATURDAY, MAY 15TH WITH SPECIAL $1 ADMISSION

VERO BEACH, Fla. – April 30, 2021–  On Saturday, May 15, McKee Botanical Garden will host its annual Community Appreciation Day in memory of Alma Lee Loy, Vero’s First Lady and former Board President, by offering a special $1 admission.  It was Alma Lee Loy who first started McKee’s annual Community Appreciation Day in 2005 to give all of our residents a chance to explore and discover the many wonders of McKee. “You can’t put a price tag on fresh air. You can’t put a price tag on the things that have meant so much to the people of this community for so long”, stated Alma Lee.

Alma Lee very was very passionate about many things, including the protection of our environment and land in our community. She was a part of the historic effort in helping with raising funds for the $9 million campaign to help save and restore the Garden.

“We hope the community will take advantage of this special opportunity to come see what the Garden is all about. McKee Botanical Garden is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year since its reopening in 2001 and we can’t think of a better way to honor her memory,” said Christine Hobart.

McKee Botanical Garden is a Florida Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is recognized by the Garden Conservancy as a preservation project of national significance. The Garden features 10,000 tropical plants, including one of the state’s largest collections of waterlilies.  Since reopening in 2001, the Garden has welcomed over 800,000 visitors and now has over 4,800 members.  There is something for everyone at McKee Botanical Garden.   The Garden is known for its award-winning exhibitions, annual events, and educational workshops.

We were very fortunate to have Alma Lee Loy at our grand opening celebration of the new Children’s Garden in 2020.  The Children’s Garden invites children and adults of all ages to fall in love with nature while learning about its importance in our lives.
