Afternoon update, May 3, 2021

Indian River County verified 13 new COVID-19 cases Monday, according to the Florida Department of Health county report. This raises the total number of county cases to 12,457, while the death toll remained at 299.

The numbers in the reports are provisional and subject to change. Health officials said 124 out of the 299 Indian River County deaths were at long-term care facilities.

There have been 872 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Indian River County, health officials said. The number of hospitalizations and county cases are both cumulative.

For the Indian River County cases among residents, 8,515 were white, 1,240 were black, 1,122 were listed as “other” and 1,470 were listed as “unknown.”

Statewide, the number of COVID-19 cases increased to 2,245,853, health officials said. The number of virus-related deaths increased to 36,009.

Statewide, the number of COVID-19 cases increased to 2,242,778, health officials said. The number of virus-related deaths increased to 35,968.
