In Memory: April 21

From Strunk Funeral Homes & Crematory

Kathleen Marie Grace, 65, Sebastian

May 8, 1955 – April 18, 2021

Mrs. Kathleen Marie Grace, 65, went to her heavenly reward on April 18, 2021 with her husband and sons at her side.

Kathy was born to Dorothy and Carlos O’Brien in Chicago. She grew up with six other brothers and sisters, Elena, Peter, Patrick, Tim, Mary and Christopher. She earned her Nursing degree at St. Xavier University in Chicago, where she started her nursing career. She later moved to Ft Lauderdale, where her parents and most of her family had moved. She then moved to Melbourne where she started raising her boys Joseph, David and Robert, and then moved to Sebastian for most of their primary and secondary school years. She remained in Sebastian where she met her now husband Pete. Besides her nursing work, she was a leading Mary Kay sales representative, and spoke as a motivational speaker at their national convention. Her last job was as Admissions Director at Grace Rehabilitation in Vero Beach.

Kathy described herself as a lioness for her cubs (her boys), but it was through great self-sacrifice to meet their needs, never through any unpleasantness. She often said, “God first, family second, career third,” which she lived daily. She had strong trust in God who came through for her in many unexpected ways throughout her life. She never wavered in her Catholic faith or practice of faith, and she passed that devotion on to her children. Long after they were in bed, she would practice her daily prayers and devotions. She taught religious education at Saint Sebastian Church, and was later a member of St John of the Cross in Vero Beach. Her favorite Bible passage was Romans 12:9-21 on mutual love, which she truly lived.

She loved to be with her family and friends in recreation and laughter, especially with her daughter-in-law Kelly and granddaughter Eleanor. She was quick to smile and laugh at the smallest opportunity, and what a beautiful smile she had. We will miss her joyful spirit and smile. She showed us how to be happy and persevere to the end. Even when suffering from serious illness, she rarely complained and then only briefly.

Thank you Kathy for being a part of our lives and showing us how to live the abundant life promised by Christ. We hope to be with you again in eternal life in accordance with His promises.

If you’d like to give something to Kathy, she would prefer one of the following in order of preference:
