SEBASTIAN — No injuries were reported after a car slammed into the back of a school bus carrying nine children on Thursday, fire rescue crews said.
The wreck involving the bus and an older model car happened at 3:24 p.m. at Barber Street and Nebraska Circle in Sebastian, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Jamie Coleman said. Coleman said the bus was stopped when it was rear-ended by the car in a 20-mph school zone.
It was unclear if children were getting off the bus at the time of the wreck. The bus had minor damage while the car – carrying a man and woman, both of Sebastian – had moderate damage, Coleman said.
The crash closed one lane on Barber Street. The lane was reopen by 4:50 p.m.
Coleman said the children stayed on the bus and were taken to their regular stops.
No further details were immediately available.
